I scooped this used watch up on eBay, but have no idea what it is. If the seller's story is true, then it's a Mazda promotional item from the '80s. Here's the thing: I can't figure out which gauge it's supposed to be. This is made more complicated by the fact it's in kilometers, so it could be anything, not necessarily a car sold in the U.S. And with a top speed of 280 km/h (more than 170 mph), it's probably something fast.
Look familiar to anyone?
And the answer might be that it's fake, not a real gauge, etc. But I bet somebody here can tell me what it is (or what it's supposed to be).

It's obviously a speedometer. In that era - RX7 turbo? Cosmo?
It's a very cool find. I have a "tachometer" watch from Team Voodoo, circa 1998 or so. I'll get some pics later.
It looks like an FD speedometer

so late 80's early 90's mazda swag maybe?
Yeah, definitely a speedometer--sorry for not being as clear--just racking my brain trying to figure out what car.
I thought FD at first, too, but the digital odometer doesn't match up. Maybe that was just an artistic decision?
I was thinking FC as the FD had a digital odometer...

I've seen all the new ones that have random car photo faces, but this one is actually old--face isn't just a photo, I opened it up and the movement inside is old, box is old, leather strap is old, size is very small (and therefore old) etc. I'm pretty sure it's a different thing from those modern speedometer watches.
Of course, that doesn't mean the same business model didn't exist in the '80s and '90s, and this could totally be something like a random dealership had a batch of cheap watches made for anybody who test drove a new Mazda, but I'm pretty positive it isn't a modern reproduction.
At one time there was an Ad in the back of the Airline flight magazines that would make you watches with whatever face you wanted , I know there were 911 VDO face watches back then.
