Starion was intercooled.

The EA82T engine wasn't intercooled in any application. Nor particularly reliable in any application.

Fake. Saab owners wouldn't vote for Ron Paul :)
The Chevy Sprint Turbo was intercooled, but it didn't announce it out back
Instead it had "Intercooler" lettering and an arrow pointing into the little mail slot for air.

And it made less horsepower than an EJ18.

And not much more horsepower than an N/A EA82. The blown headgasket-to-horsepower rating was atrocious.
I can't believe this mystery has not yet been solved even considering the scanty information provided by the OP. What was the car he saw? We have been going all Thomas Edison on this and coming up with a nice list of cars it was not.

So it wasn't that easy then
OK, were any of those Chevy NASCAR hologation special Monte Carlo's that looked like a hatch back fitted with intercooler badges?
Could it be a gray market import of some kind? Or just something sold here in low #'s
Also Intercooler badges were popular additions to cars that didn't come with them, at least there were in England in the 80's when I was a teen.
