I owned thirteen cars in 2013 so I won't list all the stuff I've owned but I started with American trucks (lil red truck/warlocks) went over to police cars then to BMWs then to Porsches then to Mercedes then to vw. I rarely own one of something but fixate and end up with three or four of something at a time. Currently two MB, a Mazda a dodge truck and a grand caravan.

I will say that marriage and the subsequent rug rats hasn't helped the quality of the cars....

I still own most of the cars I have ever had. Only the first two escaped me, although some of the others could probably do well to pass on to others.

1974 VW Type 181 Thing 1st car and the one that got away sold by my parents when I was in college.

1987 CRX HF totaled by a friend's Tacoma while sitting in his driveway.

1989 Civic Si used insurance settlement from CRX to buy, already had 198k miles, now a caged track rat after 10 years as DD now has 330,000 odd miles on it and going strong.

1977 VW Rabbit wide body panel wagon, yeah it sounds cool, but it was aborted project from the moment I dragged it home. Lives in the woods slowly being reclaimed by the earth.

1990 Geo Prizm appliance DD just wish it had cruise control.

1984 VW Rabbit ran for 2/3 years but that was 5 years ago now it lives in the yard and makes me sad.

1986 GMC Rally Van G20 composed of 30% rust 70% hopes & dreams, but it always seems to start.

1967 VW Bug current project for when I have money. At least it lives in the garage so it won't be reclaimed in to the earth.

1967 Chevy II SS - 230 ci six, with 3 speed on the column- should have kept it sold to get the Sprint

1972 Mercury Capri - 4 cyl, manual trans - another one I should have kept

1972 GMC Sprint (think El Camino), very stout 350, 4 bbl, auto, traded for the 1973 Nova

1973 Chevy Nova SS - 350 with 2 bbl, auto, Sold and drove the Ghia while in college

1971 VW Karmann Ghia - Really, really should have kept this one but wanted a car with a/c, sold and got my '77 Corolla

1977 Toyota Corolla SR5 coupe, sold to get the Ranger - stupid, stupid, stupid

1971 Pinto - it was my wife's when we got married, sold to get the 1980 Corolla

1980 Toyota Corolla SR5 hatchback

1984 Ford Ranger 4X4, 4 cylinder, don't buy a 4wd from a teenager, sold to get the Mazda B2000, which my dad told me to buy in the first place

1984 Mazda B2000, longbed - a great truck, sold to buy the Civic S

1990 Honda Civic S, sold because i had to sell either it or the B2000

1975 Toyota Corolla SR5 coupe - had the bolt-on fender flares, should have kept it, sold and got the 1990 protege

1988 Mercury Sable - kids, sold and got the 626

1985 Mazda 626 Sedan, sold and got the MPV

1990 Mazda protege LX, 1.8L DOHC, 4 wheel disk brakes, bought it with 144K on it drove it 11 years, sold it with 278K showing and still had the original clutch, this was a great car. Sold and got the Blazer

1995 Mazda Millenia, I paid $2600.00 for this one, what a deal, The transmission went out $2300.00 later I got it back. This was not a $4900.00 car, another one I hated. Don't buy a 626, probe, MX6, or Millenia with this automatic trans, it's not if it will fail but when.

1990 Mazda MPV Van 4X4, super slow but 11 years of basically trouble free service, sold when we got the Buick

1994 Chevy S10 Blazer 2WD, great motor surrounded by mediocrity, sold when I got the C1500

1998 Chevy C1500, over 230K on it when I bought it 5.7L, wish I still had it sold when I got a deal on the S10 pickup

2000 Buick LeSabre - wife's car, slow, uninspiring but a clean low mileage car

1992 Chevy S10 Pickup - 2.8L V-6, 5 spd, all the power of a 4 cylinder with none of the economy

1992 Mazda Miata - sold it to pay tuition for my son, a fun car, I can buy into the hype

2013 Ford Escape - my company car, 1.6L eco-boost, 6 recalls in 16 months, not a believer in this one.

Kids cars,

Kid #1 1994 Acura Integra to a Mini Cooper S (I hated that car, she didn't have it for 4 consecutive weeks in a row), to a 2010 Civic S

Kid # 2 2000 Acura Integra - had it for 6 years, essentially trouble free

Kid # 3 2000 Mazda Protege ES - just want this one to last through college, another really good car.

I'll bore you all with my late 90's econobox upbringing to an extent until I started having fun with cars:

1992 Chevy Corsica - Don't buy cars from your female relatives, very poorly maintained and I dumped it.

1994 Plymouth Acclaim - When it got it's 2nd 3.0 Chrysler trans rebuild I sold it.

1991 Honda Prelude Si - which I loved to death and put a lot of work into but sold because it was a crappy platform with little aftermarket support.

1990 Mercury Tracer Station Wagon - aka "The Shaggin Wagon" which did winter beater duty when I hand the prelude. Trans died and I bought another beater.

1992 Crown Victoria - another beater I bought when the Tracer Trans died and drove til after the Prelude sold.

1998 Jetta GLX VR6 - See start of VW obsession. I owe this car more friendships then I can count for getting me into the VW enthusiast community.

1990 S10 Blazer - Winter Beater, post Jetta hold over. I was 2nd owner after my friends family, drove to 232K!

2002 Jetta Wagon w/ VR6 5 spd - Current daily, not sure what I'll replace with yet. Probably a crappy "appliance car" that get's good gas mileage and is "responsible."

1984 Rabbit GTI - Current Project, bought with 75K on it and bone stock, I'll be hard pressed to sell this until I find something else I REALLY want.

So there you have it. If I can say anything else it's that I'm a true car enthusiast and I don't give a flying FK who makes it, if it goes fast, handles well, or looks cool I can appreciate it. I hold no permanent alliegences to any brand or style of car and I hope to own something from as many different types of car enthusiast circles as I can in my lifetime.

I have really limited time and space so I just keep getting 240SXs since I know how they work and have parts and tools that work for them. I wish I had played around with a Miata and a decently set up Honda at some point. Still may, but the list also includes S2000 and Evo IX. I came of age in this hobby reading Sport Compact Car and idolizing Dave Coleman. Maybe that's why I own a 240SX and the Mazda3 he helped design, haha.

I wouldn't even know where to start. It's not really an evolution, it's more of a spastic buy what catches the eye. Right time, right place, right price and it's coming home with me.

I've owned everything from LBCs to Lincoln Town Cars. From tiny encono-boxes to big block sedans, wagons to coupes. At the moment it's a Spitfire, a E24, a F350 and a 4x4 Samurai, just to make sure I covered all the bases. I like them all.

Probably the worst part, I'm not sure I could remember them all.

One thing that really amuses me is how much my current daily driver resembles my first car even though they're from very different makes. I started with a Dodge Dart with a slant six, and I now also have a BMW 328 which has a German slant six. But it seems I've pretty much tried everything I could afford at one point or another - I've owned American, German, Japanese, and British cars already. It may be easier to list what genres I haven't owned:

  • Anything four wheel drive
  • French, Eastern Block, or Korean cars
  • A practical late model four door car (my wife's had several)
  • A rotary
  • Buying a new car
  • An AMC
  • Anything with an odd number of cylinders (lawnmowers and chainsaws excluded)
  • Prewar cars

In order of purchase.

  • 1992 Camry (free): 4 cylinder, auto, dead base car with broken AC. Fairly clean car. Inexplicable engine failure after ~6 months of use.

  • 1998 Mitsubishi Mirage "The Rage": $600 Crapload of miles, small engine (1.5?)5 speed, bought in spring to replace Camry, beat the crap out of it summer of 2010 and sold in fall.

  • 1996 Pontiac Sunfire "E36 M3fire": 5 speed, 2.2 Bought of dealer backlot for $400 fall 2010, DDed for a long time, awful cockroach of a car, beat the hell out of it car ran like crap if you didnt run it hard, sold summer 2013 for more than I had into it.

  • 1988 Yugo GV: 1116 4 speed, Bought spring 2012, got roadworthy over the summer, as typical of an Italian car built by communists, I've put maybe 300 miles on it since I bought it. Still own.

  • 1999(I think) Pontiac Bonneville: NA base model. Bought mid winter 2013 to replace E36 M3fire. My first onion, peel back another layer, cry some more, epic amounts of hidden rust, IIRC build sheet found indicated it was constructed on a Tuesday at 3am in late December or something to the effect, engine blew 2 weeks after I replaced the intake gaskets and upper intake. Sold at a loss and kept DDing E36 M3fire.

  • 1999 Chevy Prizm LSi: 5 speed, crank windows, power remote locks and mirrors, AC. Bought spring 2013. Best damn car I've ever owned.
