BMW E23.

Make mine a European 745i, please (although that might ruin the "affordable" part ).

I was delivering one to one of my "customers" back when I played in the Grey Market (circa 1981). An older gentleman in Starkville, MS. asked me what a BMW was. I told him it was like a Mercedes that handled well.

So close... The discerning enthusiast must bow to Sir Lyons' preferences though.

Define "afford".

For me, there's only one:

I think you could easily find a nice driver under $10k.

Servicing the brakes or anything else of consequence (and most of the inconsequential, as well) will cost several grand.

BMWs and Benzes are nice, but nothing screams "pass the grey poupon" like a Jag (if you can't afford the Bentley).

The jags have class, but it's snooty class. Not classy class.

If that is the case, then what the hell kinda class do Mercedes and BMW have? Jags to me define class.

I saw one of these today, mildly hot-rodded with torque thrust wheels and lowered to not quite low-rider stance. I would not call it the epitome of the class, but I wouldn't have been ashamed to be seem it either.
