What's the 2018 Challenge Sub Class?

Ok, with the 2017 challenge in the rear view mirror, let's start planning for next year.

What's the sub class for 2018 going to be?

Seeing what GT did with that Insight, I'm going to say...

Mid Engine

Whether it came that way or you make it that way.  There should be a plethora of hatches, trucks, vans, economy cars, etc. given the DIY GRM Shogun treatment.

They don't make good donks. G-body, bubble caprice/impalas, panther crown vics/grand marques all make great cars to donk.

Im not sure how the autocross would go, but the drag portion could be interesting. The right tire and wheel combo could make for a modern gasser:

The popular choices were wagons and police cars, along with malaise era.  My xB is almost challenge priced, if I could sell off about $500 worth of interior.

There are a lot of SAABs out there that can get stupid fast for low bucks. 

Next year is the 20th anniversary event I think.  Traditionally the recognized gift is CHINA for 20 year celebrations.

OK... .how about this.  Harbor Freight Predator 6.5 hp engines are made in china.  Most "yard karts" are made in china.  Let's have Formula Yard Kart series...Simple rules...chassis must be used CL yard kart. Spec HF 6.5 predator motor.  $400 build budget including engine.  Run a shortened autocross and head to head 100 foot drag race Saturday morning during concours, rain or shine.

Your arse to wide for a single seater?  Buy you a tandem yard kart.

Police cars, wagons and malaise era vehicles were all floated as possibilities.

The truck class had the biggest turn out to date with 10 entered.  Unfortunately we determined that they don't make very good challenge vehicles given that the two fastest entries started out as cars.

I'll admit that a part of me would love to see a bunch of Saabs and Volvo's with turbos. 

If we do cop cars, what about cars used as police vehicles elsewhere? I'm in if we can run a euro cop car.

South Carolina had an E34 M5 highway patrol car IIRC. How many Fox body notchbacks will show?  There's always the Answer you know.

Think the car you use has to be a police package. Like identified by the vin or something. Should also add in federal agency cars lol. 

I feel like wagons or malaise era would be great. I love fast wagons and malaise cars usually just need heads and a carb to unlock big power. All those big cubic inch giants waiting for us!
