Ian F yes that is exactly it. On our D-sports racer 1012lbs with me in it we used 7 inch wide tires so basically a 175/60-13. The car would pull over 2Gs in a corner and 3Gs on the brakes.

As for the Subi vs VW; if there wasn't such a huge aftermarket support for air cooled VW stuff it'd be a now brainer in favor of the Subie. The only real downside on air cooled engines is the power loss. A large oil cooler can take care of most of that ( think Suzuki GSXR) so in this case it has merit.

A pal of mine I were laughing because I said that air cooled 2 strokes were perfect for me as there was no cooling system to maintain and it never needed an oil change. Plus most of my motors smoke anyway.

Last time the mythical Legacy EJ20 for cheap came up, I checked eBay and couldn't find one for under $2k. If they really are selling them for that cheap, I'll buy one or two on general principles and hoard them in case I find myself owning a Forester.

I have a few feelers out for EJ20's as someone has shown me a very cheap adapter plate and according to him unstressed and out in the open like on a sandrail cooling is a very minimal issue.

Still finding EJ20's around 2K in good shape around here in my own searching.

What about a G10T turbo 3 cylinder from a Sprint or Swift? It weighs less than a VW flat 4, and you're already starting off with 70 horsepower or so. The transaxle is also incredibly light.

It looks like tiger Jdm is no longer around

The cheapest I've found is 900

Jdm

Edit Link for them at 800

Looks like they're all over ebay motors for under a grand.

Shipping eats into that like you would not believe.

But thanks for the heads up might find one close by if I get lucky.

Gettocet it is.

2.5K 2004 miata with a solid adjustable aftermarket suspension has been found but not yet bought. HAving someone do a quick glance to make sure nothing else is hacked up. Has nice light wheels as well but crappy tires.
600$ for a spec miata cage kit, 300$ more for upgraded tubing to that kit and enough to make the front and rear cross braces and rod and spool.
700$ for good tires.
~300$ in waste disposal fees.
500$ for a LSD if required. ~200$ for a used Kirkey race seat.
~50$ in lexan to make small windshield.
~400$ in paint supplies to make it all one color.

Might get 1K back in selling parts maybe more.

Still waiting on some DMV requirements to see if I need to make a hood or fenders. BOth could be made of clear plastic really easily with the tools I have.

Got the check today for all the vacatin I did not use last year and it should cover pretty much everything.

Hoping for something like this.

Welcome to California.

Got to have the AC purged out before I break it down. 55$
Got to dispose of the old tires. 40$
I have to pay extra to dispose of car parts that cannot be scrapped. 60$
Anything fiberglass has to go into the dump and I have to pay ~60$ a load to do that as well.

The only thing made of fiberglass on a Miata is the the hard top, and hopefully that's not going to the dump. :)

Yeah I know, that is getting sold. Along with the hard dog bar and the the seats and the interior and the steering wheel and the well you get the picture.

Mind is still in Manx mode.

FYI this is going to be a long build, basically I am going to get all the parts into storage and then maybe in 5-7 months do a hardcore thrash with some friends over say three days to get it semi there.

Tire Blankets would solve the heat problem.

FSAE (like a lot of other series) does not allow tire blankets.

And the comment was in regards to VERY light cars (FSAE are in the 500 lb range these days). In the realm of light cars, the 1000 lb car that the OP is talking about isn't light.

First car was a rusty beast.

This is local and interesting looking at it tomorrow. Got a solid custom cage and a race seat setup for a taller driver., owner says he has a log book, has the good shocks. Has the LSD and the 6 speed and the upgraded KGB 4 way adjustable shocks. 88K on the chassis and the motor. Been sitting a while. He came down hard on price after a talk ~3K seems to be the number.

Title is clear as well.

I like that. I love where you're going with it and even more I love that you're willing to sacrifice a good looking car to do it. I don't have the nads to do that.
