The biggest issue I have with autos, dual clutch and CVT transmissions is that they suck off the line compared with manuals, especially with small displacement engines. I also hat transmissions that upshift just as the engine comes into its power band.

Wouldn't the issues in that respect be the dual clutch and CVTs are tuned for fuel economy and not acceleration?

Have you driven a DSG VW? That thing launches like a beast. It also will hold a gear. No unexpected upshift. It's a manual with no clutch pedal, until you stick it in D.

Ah, Powerglides?
Had a 68 Skylark in college with a 350 and a poweglide. Not that bad though as it had enough torque and wasn't a high-winder.
