I think my dad and I are getting a plan together. This year I want to be competitive but that's all I am going to say for now.

There's a link that was posted up a while ago with a list of cars by bolt pattern. Anybody know what website that was?
Biting the bullet. Megasquirt, huge turbo, and huge injectors are a go.
Anyone got some decent 17" tires they'd let go for cheap? Looking for anything between 205/40-17s and 225/45-17s. A pair of drag radials would be nice if i do end up growing a set of balls, too.

Seriously? Was that the filter? Or did you really get ahold of an E36 M3.
In reply to 93celicaGT2:
upon returning from last years challenge, our e36 328 motor was yanked and traded for a wrecked 95 m3 complete autotragic chassis + $1500. Still need a clutch assembly
Hurm, why not at least show the car I've got my build based on. Haven't started with build yet though... TONs of hours of work ahead ;P
$500 = got me the answer to everything GRM. Reason it was $500
Really hoping I can pull off my build and stay in budget. If so, it'll be coming... if not... might come again anyways (chicago roadtrip!)
The winning car in 2003 was a V-8 powered Miata purchased for a whole bunch.
Since then, Miatas have shown up with turbos, megasquirts, and even a Lexus V-8's.
Tell me again why the heck you can't get a motor rebuilt for $1500? You could PAY someone to build that car and be able to bring it.
From the pictures that's a pretty clean Miata for $500. Looks like a good start.
Go to the link in my signature to see my $2010 car.

I'm not planning on bringing a miata that has been done before ;)
I'm preparing for the 2011 challenge! As i won't be back for good until April, and then my next few months will be spent getting out of the Army, no way it's even possible. However I am on the hunt for a 2011 car.
I'm tossing around a crazy idea and was wanting to run it by the group to see if it's been done.
What are the thoughts on using the same rims for your autox and drag tires. If I decided to do it I would use the rims to first day with the autox tires and then use two of them the next day for the drag slicks. The down side would be that I would have to take them somewhere between the two days to swap the tires.
It's a lot of work, and you would probably need to do some scouting to find a place locally willing to mount race tires. Most chains won't do it, at least in the area.
But it seems like a good way to save some money.

Mount them yourself in the parking lot. Balancing is overrated.

Actually Aaron is far to modest .... He has come up with a plan that I think is going to be competitive, and cool as well! He has agreed to let his grandfather and I help again this year if we promise to stay out of his way... Maybe after he gets the purchase sealed next weekend he can be talked into sharing a little.
Guess we will see you all in October

I know of a place near gainesville that will do it without even blinking. it's about 15 miles from the hotel as well, 15-20 min depending on how you drive. Only problem is, you would have to have them to him by like 4 on Friday.
wouldnt be too much of a problem to get them there by 4 if you autox'd the car early-ish...
i'd say go nuts! easy-peasy

Any idea how much he charges? I'm assuming it would need to be included in my budget.

At the ripe old age of 13 my dear mother bought me a half finished 85 omni turbo swap I finished it and started adding parts blew it up more times than I can count. At 15 she forced me to sell the omni and bought me in its place both my 85 charger and 96 acr. The charger was much rustier than I expected to the point where it couldnt be fixed. The acr wound up with a mag head and some other odds and ends an oil pump failure meant the end of that engine my neon buddy Mark is building that car as a super touring road race car now.
As far as this omni its an 86 GLHt known as the basketcase on turbododge its an abandoned hill climb project with a super ghetto cage, super ghetto TII conversion, super ghetto wiring, and, super ghetto fuel system the best part about it was it along with an A555 trans and many other cool bits came to me at a whopping cost of $0. The 2.5 CB Im building for it was $125 along with a spare non CB 2.5 block and just about all the parts to completely rebuild the CB. This thing with the 2.2 was fast at least as fast as my old car
Alright, sounds good. I spotted you over at T-M so i guess i dont need to plug the forum
$0 is pretty good. By the time i bought my Aries and got an intercooled 2.5 and 5spd in it, i was out $500!
Sounds like you got a pretty cool mom as well!
Just brought our car home tonight. It's a '94 Trans Am. I don't think a 4th gen F-body has done the challenge yet. Hopefully it'll run as well as the Mustang. Speaking of which... Anyone want to buy a proven top ten finisher / calender car?
