It’s got a $5,000 price tag. 150,000mi.

I’m not so much referring to THIS one as much as a general topic.

These really check several important boxes for me and I want the truth. It’s just that I want the truth to be “go ahead, they’re great cars!”.

I owned an Audi 100CS years back. High maintenance and high parts cost for a glorified VW IMHO.

Is that at all the same car as a 2006?

No but I still wouldn't own an Audi. Those two still apply from my talks with owners of newer ones.

Haven't owned an Audi in many years, but I suspect they are like other euro cars - if you know them and can do the work yourself, they're not so bad to live with. If you don't know them and pay others to do the work they have the potential to bite you very hard. Sis in law had an A6 avant she had dealer serviced - many 4 digit visits.

12 year old car with 150 k does not seem like a deal to me at all.  Then again I just offered 4K for an 01  740i with about 65k. (Asking price is 4.5k.)

Unless that car is perfect in every way with complete service records AND it has just had its required major engin services I would not pay close to that for that car.

In the Audi circles there seems to be a tax for Quattro and avant in the name. Don’t know why.

That’s precisely why I wrote that I wasn’t so much referring to THAT car but the topic in general in my opening post.

I was was wondering if it’s as bad an IDEA as I’m lead to believe.

I drove a 3.2 Audi a few years ago when I was shopping for something or another.  It was fine but unimpressive.  If you feel the need for a German wagon with AWD that isn't a BMW or Merc, the VW Passat has more room than the Audi A6 and the 3.6 VR6 rails the 3.2 V6 like an NFL lineman invited to play high school ball.

In reply to KyAllroad (Jeremy) :

That’s tempting. Really needing the wagon body style though.

Oh, I know.  I was just posting up the first thing I found of the right year/make/engine.  Mine is a wagon and it's HUGE inside.  Take a look around, I'm sure one is available in New England.

Don't listen to haters, parts are cheaper than BMW and Merc. Usually a lot cheaper. Unlike VW, these are built in Germany. Of the 2 luxury brands, I've had the best luck with Audi and if you want awd. it's the only choice. BMW and Merc systems have never worked as well. If it were my choice I'd go with 5cyl turbo models. They are old now but are tanks. They also have most of the modern safety stuff and can be made into rockets. A UrS6 can do 500 bhp with no internal mods.
