It should be noted too that Matt (miata in the first post) also shaved/filled/smoothed all of the engine bay surfaces for an even cleaner look.

I think a nice clean engine bay is pretty slick too, but to me this screams "I NEEDS MORE ENGINE"... It just highlights that the car has a dinky little 4-banger where you could plop a nice big V8!
BMW inline 6 engines are easy to tuck because they come that way from the factory.
I need to get a better picture but this is the best one I have at work of the RX7, I had it tucked sort of... Not like the Miata by any means that engine bay is beautiful.

This. Deleting parts is the easiest way to clean up the engine bay/whatever. Sure, when you get really clean you will have to rework harnesses, but 80% of visual clean up work for project cars is eliminating components that aren't critical and hiding/disguising the few remaining ones that are, IMO.

Oh, and to support my claim, here's an example of a car where I replaced the engine with a radiator and did a very minor wire tuck...you know, to clean up under the hood:

Negative. What it's screaming for is a huge berkeleying turbo.

Negative. What that's screaming is to be sold to someone that will drive it in anger.

Miles of plastic engine cover is cheating.
the miata is too low to drive angry… + Matt does have a motor swap planned for the near future iirc. and there is very little wiring under that bmw plastic, now what is under the intake manifold, well that's a different story…

if only more Vdubs looked that clean

Stance... thats all I see when I see VWs anymore.

why does this have to be an either/or proposition?

Okay....I know this is stupid of me, but I gotta admit that I am digging the transparent pipes on the top one. Gotta be heavier, and I'd worry about heating it up too much on a "driving" car....but I do still like the look of it.
The second one: Why do people pull their front bumper? What does this show? Is there a point to it? If there is, I really am missing it.

why do the wanna-be drifters use zip ties to hold perfectly good body panels on the car?
it's a part of the image, yo..

so when they inevitably bump into something, the whole bumper/side skirt pops off easily in one piece, instead of being held on tightly by a factory mount, possibly causing the bumper/skirt to crack or get ripped apart in an impact.
I like it!! It's already got me thinking...............the RX7 could stand to lose some parts and a a nice shiny rotary could look pretty sweet just sitting in there. Anybody have any more pics and rotaries in particular?

I'm guessing it might have to do with showing what's behind there. If i were to do a tuck, i'd probably half ass it and tuck whatever i could underneath the bumper. I pull my bumper, it looks terrible. Also, it seems his radiator routing stuff is pretty slick.

Took a while for this to be posted up.
It makes me wonder, though- if you are going to go through all of that effort, you would think that he would have re-done a lot of the base engine as well. Say to COP's to get rid of the coil pack, and maybe even a different cam cover, to relocate the PCV system. Or modify the throttle to hide the throttle cable. Or even put on a completely different intake- throttle bodys are arguably better looking than a manifold....
it's cool, and all. But if you are going to get rid of that much stuff, why not keep going?
