Is the newest generation of the Subaru WRX still as competent on track as previous generations?

We take it to the Florida International Rally and Motorsport Park to find out how it holds up against another popular Japanese sports sedan, the newest Honda Civic Si.

According to the trace data presented from the FIRM:

  • C8 z51                 1:16:13
  • C8 Base             1:19:17
  • Supra                1:19:59
  • Veloster N        1:21:49
  • Civic Type R     1:21:79
  • Elantra N DCT 1:22:08
  • Mk8 GTI            1:23:05
  • 400 Z                 1:23:44
  • Subaru WRX    1:24:67
  • Civic Si              1:25:53
  • Mk7 GTI             1:28:47

Can't wait to see where the GR Corolla and 8th Gen CTR wind up, and would love to see where a DCT Elantra N finishes.

I'm really tempted by the new CTR after owning an Si for a while.... all except the fuel mileage.  Gah!  I've been spoiled by 40 mpg on my commute and still fun to drive.

I love my 05 WRX Wagon to death. Yeah it's got 200k, but she is still awesome!

We'll update our ultimate guide to track car lap times as soon as we get our hands on the Corolla and CTR.

Also, the Elantra N we tested was equipped with the DCT.

My two cents: The WRX felt comfortable for my 6'4" frame, and it was fun on the street. However, the lap times tell the tale on the track.
