So I was reading the Lancia Outlaw article in CM and the fact that it has a bigger engine, brakes etc sounded really familiar.
My Datsun 1200 features 280ZX struts, Z car aluminum drums, roadtster limited slip diff, 210 5 speed, flat slide carbs, double the stock horsepower and track width 3" wider than stock. Despite all that it's not particularly cool.
So hence forth I shall call it a Datsun 1200 outlaw...........I may even get a tattoo.
Get a tatto with that and you really will be an outlaw....

Is it painted Black? If so, check with Johnny Cash, you may in fact be an "outlaw". Well actually if you are wearing blue jeans and New balance sneakers you aren't an "outlaw", but your car is. That's worth something.

It's bright red with Italian writing on the side. Also I have to race in a catch all class due to the mods.
As for my being an outlaw; I am Catholic who got married in a Baptist church.........to a black girl........oh my the Pope John Pual must have thought of that. Although that may just make me a rebel.
Wait, I thought you got called an “outlaw” because your car is an affront to the purists. For example, a customized/hot-rodded 356 with matte paint would be tossed out of the local PCA Concours because the Porsche purists outlaw that upstart s**t.
So, uh, where are all these Datsun 1200 purists anyway?!?
Also, I really dig your car. Time in the GRM forums has made a Datsun 1200 fan (but not a purist) out of me it seems! \m/

We have at least 6 of them on Datsun1200.com; plus there are two vintage organizations that I wouldn't be able to run with due to the modifications.
I could put a Porsche engine in it if that would bolster my case.
If going slower strengthens your case, I’d go with the weakest case possible.
I think it is not just it it annoys purists. I feel like you have to be filthy rich enough that you could restore correctly but you chose not to do so for street cred. If I made an outlaw it would just be ghetto because I can't afford to do it to spec.
Most definitely an Outlaw.
I'm here for NA miatae with BP swaps and wilwood minilite kits. An outlaw with a smile?
I'm an outlaw Miata owner. I drive my Miata to the winter club meetings when most every Miata purist has put their cars in storage during road salting season. I think I'll add some red bumper covers to the NB that's already three shades of silver and maybe a white hood, for good measure......
(tongue firmly in cheek)
I have to take issue with this. Harumph
First, you just can’t self-outlaw yourself. It’s not right and should be outlawed. An “authority” has to outlaw you that is the law.
Second, Dat 1200s were the cause for Fiat 850s becoming “outlawed” in H-Production. So it’s a personal thing too.
