... but you CAN safety wire it!

Ok, so I know how awesome you all think I am.

But really, I just needed something to get me around the block to test out other things on the car while I plot my real exhaust fix. This saab downpipe had come completely apart at this joint, and I realized that both the upper and lower had a little lip. So I tightened wire around both the top and bottom lip, and then I did 3 bridges to hold the top to the bottom. Worked great for thrashing around the neighborhood - didn't even fall off!

Anyone who says you can't weld rust just isn't turning the wire speed up enough.

Trust me. I leave my MBG outside year round.

You need some safety wire pliers.

... but given enough time, rust will weld for you! Usually a bolt in a very difficult location, and is the last of which you need to loosen to remove the component you want to replace or work on.

In reply to OldGray320i:

I won the lottery today with snapping off rusted-over studs in one-off trim pieces. Both the first and last studs have gone to meet their maker.

"Oh man this is going great now that awful first stud is out of the way, I'm almost do-"

In Soviet Russia, you don't weld rust, rust welds you.
