Well, how about when it goes from perfectly good, to less-so?

Apparently when you're in a small plane like that and people are opening the door, the pilot is required to have an emergency parachute just in case. Sounds like it was a really good thing in this case.
From what I read, the pilot of the plane that our view was from was able to land (does that make any sense?). The other plane can be seen heading for earth like a one-winged lawn dart. But yeah, everyone lived. Amazing.
Thanks for moving it EastCoast.
Why on earth were they flying on top of each other with so little room for error. I get the idea of formation jumping but that was reedonkulush
I suppose there really has never been a group of people so well prepared to survive a mid-air collision as that.
I wonder how long it takes for your heart rate to return to normal after having a flaming ball of aircraft parts knock you off a small perch under the wing of another aircraft.
All I know is that the people who were caught between the two planes, and at one point had a propeller moving towards them from just a few feet away, must have E36 M3 their pants SO MUCH
I always said that I'd never jump out of an airplane unless its on fire with only one wing. So there you go.
I'm a helicopter guy. Flight pay is more than jump pay. Pays more to stay in than jump out of a perfectly good aircraft. Plus it's pretty hard to broad jump 30ft, the rotor blade length. Jump out of a falling helicopter and pull a 'chute and go straight through the rotor blades.
The wife jumped out of one of their planes a few years back, took the AFF course, so skipped the whole tandem jump thing.
We have a friend who lives a few blocks from them, he was in his garage when it Heard the hit and much yelling, but didn't see much by the time he got outside. We stop in to chat with the skydiving people a few times a year, haven't been by since the accident though.
I actually heard about the crash via a nurse on facebook who treated the guy in the lawn darting plane for relatively minor injuries. He apparently spent the whole time apologizing to her about his Hooters T-Shirt.

The owner of Skydive Superior requires all of his pilots to wear them.

So when did this happen? Is this kind of recent?
