We'll all the holiday sales got the best of me, and this just arrived.
It's a Haro La Bastile with a 20.25" top tube.
I also have a pair of Odyssey F25 forks, 2-pair of 990 brakes & levers, headset, sprocket & wheels en route. I still need cranks, BB, chain, pedals, bars, grips, stem, gyro & cables, tires & tubes, and seatpost. I have an older Haro seat for it, and I haven't decided if I'll take the pegs off the 2hip for this bike, or order a new set.
My goal for it is 25lbs or less, so I'm trying to balance being both selective & cheap. In other words it's probably going to take a couple months to gather all the parts.

Throw cheap in the trash, hand your checkbook to profile, and they'll take care of the rest. You know you want to. It's a lot of fun.
ETA- trick I learned from Chad- and one i'll pass along- get some street pegs and some grip tape. Street kids are using metal core and plastic sleeves instead of the full steel flatties that you've got on that 2hip, should save a few pounds. A lot of the modern riders are doing this move. My Subrosa (that's gonna be my "flatland" bike) is running 4x Cult Butter pegs with regular old off the rack skateboard grip tape.

Those Haro pegs on the 2hip are aluminum, though I'm intrigued by the newer plastic pegs & was thinking about giving them a try. I wouldn't mind having the option to grind & it looks like I can find plastic sleeved pegs that are slightly lighter than these Haro ones.

nice thing is too- the sleeves are replaceable. Not like the old days when the peg was cooked you needed a whole new peg. It's pretty nice.
Love it. You will have a blast with it, I built a flat/street bike and it's the best. It's awesome having a bike that's always fun no matter what kind of riding you feel like doing at the moment. Can't wait to see it come together.
Thanks!
The next batch of parts arrived & I just ordered everything else except tires & tubes today. I decided to steal the Haro bars & pegs off the 2Hip for now anyway.
I finally ordered tires - that was way more difficult than I expected.
I like the size of the 20x2.2 S&M Speedballs on the 2Hip. I don't really see any reason for me to go with a fatter/heavier tire, but there's also some really cool colored tires out there that might compliment the bike. I'm surprised how expensive many of the tires are now. So I decided to keep it simple & relatively cheap, while also going with a light & high-pressure tire.
Since I'm waiting for parts, I decided to do what little I could & installed the brake mounts & gyro tabs onto the frame. I didn't install the cable guides because I have dual cable lower gyro cable on the way & it has its own mount.

Theres a TON of tire choices out there. I put 2.4s on my mack daddy bike and I'm kinda regretting it. I'm thinking I'm gonna ditch em and run demolition momentums. I'm also looking at building the dumbest set of wheels humanly possible - but that's a discussion for another time.
In reply to Mndsm :
I agree, the choices are overwhelming & it's too easy to think "oh those tires are only a few dollars more..." and next thing you're shopping $80/each tires.
I'm also totally up for dumb wheel ideas!

Well, eclat has started making the carbonic hoops. They're $400. Each. Then of course there's a full profile z coaster set with ti guts and front hub that's only another...$720. I've already done ti spokes once so I should probably keep that trend afloat. Those seem to have gotten cheaper, I can get that done for about $200. OR, I can get real freaky and get Berd spokes, which are $8. Each. A cool $576. So....2k to have freaky light wheels......
In reply to Mndsm :
Would this be a brakelss setup?
I was considering getting a custom frame & fork built just so I could run mechanical discs F/R with a gyro on a 20" bike.

Nah, I'd still run brakes. I'm not a total heathen. Plus no brakes scares me to death.
In reply to Mndsm :
You can use calipers with the carbonic rims?

In reply to Pete Gossett (Forum Supporter) :
Sure. They make carbon specific pads- or you can run odyssey ghost clears. Alienation makes a set of carbons too, but the eclats are fresher in my mind because you can actually buy a complete (!) With them on it.
In reply to Mndsm :
Very cool. I've only seen carbon rims with disc setups until now.
In reply to David S. Wallens :
Thanks David!
The tires & tubes arrived today so I got those mounted. I'm a little disappointed that these 2.1" wide tires are noticeably more narrow than the 2.1" Speedballs, but not enough to worry about doing anything different yet.
I do have a pair of blue 2.1" tires that are closer in width to the Speedballs, but I'm not sure the color will work. I'll get it built up with these tires & ride it for a bit before I decide.
I really like the Haro "HH" seat on the 2hip & found another nice one on eBay recently that I was able to pick up for a decent price. That was before I'd bought this frame, so I wasn't sure where it would end up. I ordered an aluminum seat post off Amazon for this bike, just to save a little weight. So I compared the weights of the new seat & aluminum post, vs the one I already had & it's chromoly post.
A whopping 2.43oz savings!
I may use the chromoly post anyway, I don't really like the rough powder coated silver finish on the aluminum post. I was expecting it to be bare aluminum & was planning on polishing it to match the rims.
The remaining big order of parts are due to arrive tomorrow. The brakes have shipped, but no eta yet - I'd ordered them from a random vendor who's ad showed up on my FB feed, just because I wanted blue 990's and this vendor also showed the matching blue/black locking Tech 77 levers. Except they're back ordered with no eta...
So I ended up ordering black levers with my big parts order from Albe's, but left my brake order with this vendor. At least they've been responsive, so I don't think there's anything questionable going on.
The gyro cables I ordered were too short, and the grips were too long, so I swapped the ones from the 2hip. The 990s won’t be here until Monday, but I weighed it & it’s 24lbs now, so it should be just under 25 with the brakes. That's with the chromoly seat post - the aluminum one was already getting scratched up after putting it in & out 2x, so I'll just use this one.
I might just keep the yellow grips. The color kinda works with the yellow decals on the head & seat tubes. I'm pretty ambivalent about them otherwise, but they fit & I don't hate them.
I'm a little disappointed at the difference in the shades of blue anodizing, especially for the Haro parts. Hopefully it won't bother me for long.

Looks like it's coming together nice like.
The brakes arrived yesterday & I got them setup last night. I hopped on it long enough at lunchtime to make sure they work, planning on heading to the weekly old guy BMX ride tonight for a shakedown. Hopefully there's no major problems during the 8+ mile ride.
Post-ride recap: Overall it went well. The bike is smooth & comfortable to ride, and I was starting to get a feel for bunnyhoping it. The left crank arm got really loose & almost fell off twice, but I only had my small Allen keys in my pack. The headset worked a tiny bit loose too, but that's to be expected.
I tightened everything up after I got home, so hopefully it'll hold now.
Looks like fun! I've had good luck using a flex hone and cordless drill to clean the tiny burrs inside the seat tube and minimize scratching on seatpost.
In reply to ae86andkp61 (Forum Supporter) :
Thanks & good to know! I didn't feel any actual burrs, but it seemed like it might have had a slight inward flare, I presume from the cutting process.
Small update: a friend from IL sent me an old pivotal seat & post for the cost of shipping. I got them installed Saturday evening & went for a 24-mile ride Sunday. The seat was plenty comfy & I shaved over a pound in weight!
Oh, and I accidentally started working at the bike shop down the street part-time.
