I miss my 03 SV650S. Picked it up for a good deal due to some minor cosmetic issues from a super low speed drop. I figured I may eventually add to the cosmetic issues so never bothered to fix them. I still have a belly pan and rear tire hugger for it. Pretty certain they won't fit your 1st gen.

However I do still have a '06? GSXR 600 rear shock with dogbones if you're interested.

I wanted a rougher one to start because I like to fix things in all honesty and it seemed like a good base.

Let me look into that shock swap and see, but definitely could be interested.

Pretty direct and straightforward swap on the 2nd gen, not sure about the 1st gen. Did a quick search last night and seemed like it would work? SV forums still have a lot of good info.

I hear these are what pushed RZ350s out of the Vintage Twins class.

So bike "runs" and that's a loose term. It hardly starts no matter where choke is and will only run at like 5,000rpms. But it's a starting point. The PO was 200% sure and said it several times that the frame mounted fuel pump needed replaced. We all know better than that here. It's a low miles 23 year old bike.

Well here we go.

Back carb.

Front carb

Lots and lots of cleaning ahead on these.

Also took apart the fuel pump for E36 M3s and giggles.

I'm genuinely surprised it ran.

Some time in a ultrasonic cleaner does wonders....

The ultrasonic did do wonders, had to clean some of the passages by hand, but that's no big deal. I am waiting on some aircut off valves since the rubbers on mine where torn.

what a score, I started riding on an SV650 in 2006 and to this day remains my favorite engine ever put in a bike. I raced mine for a couple of seasons too. Your cheapest route for suspension is probably a shock swap and a gsxr front end. That would take care of your brakes too.

No kidding. SVs are such great bikes. $300 is a steal! Just assume that if you're buying a carbureted bike that the carbs will always need cleaning and rebuilding!

I bought a 06? GSX-R 600 rear shock from on here and some race tech gold valves emulators, fork bushings and seals also from someone on here. Also got some fork springs from a local guy for my weight. I should have pretty good brakes when I'm done.

I really considered doing a front end swap, but trying to keep this super low budget.

In reply to Professor_Brap (Forum Supporter) :

emulators do an ok job, the right side up forks make that front end feel pretty soft though and the non radial brake mounts don't help. Sometimes you can find a good deal on an entire modern front end. I've twisted several pairs of those stock forks in undramatic low sides on track.

I think my current plan is to use what I currently got collected and if I damage the forks and/or find a killer deal on a modern inverted frontend I'll upgrade.

There is a parts bike locally with a inverted frontend Simi cheap, but he has no idea what they are off of and they are pretty beat up.
