I don't know where all this info about GA and reserved prices came from. I'm on the tracks email list as well and a few weeks ago filled out a lengthy surgery about potential ticket prices for the season ticket license. That's a very expensive option.
But the info regarding GA and other types of reserved seats available....I don't know....looks like a rehash of old rumors about prices. I haven't seen anything recent posted anywhere nor have I received any info from the track or promoters about other options.
Unless someone can verify it, I think all that info is just old rumors. One of the posters even mentioned that that was a repost of year old rumors.
I think at those prices there will be lots of old men wanting to impress younger girlfriends, and yuppies for the unique first time event. not for those of us that really love motorsports, those prices are out of reach, I expect a 35 to 45% decrease in second year ticket sales. at those prices i see F1 not lasting in US.( like every other try) you can get tickets for manny races(daytona 500, indycar, rollex,NHRA.) for much less. we have such access to many different kinds of racing here. in europe and manny countries they are limited on racing series. I live less than 75 miles from track and will never see it in person.
I'm not sure I'd say that Europe was limited on racing series. Circle track and drag, yes. That's less common.
I agree with David. Until I see ticket price info from the actual people who are selling the tickets, I remain skeptical of the validity of what I've read.
So if you're on the mailing list of Circuit of the Americas, you'll have received an email yesterday regarding ticket prices. Here is the link they sent: http://circuitoftheamericas.com/tickets
If you're looking for cheap, forget Austin. They are out to rape race fans for as much money as they can get. They want corporate revenues and the F1 fan is their last resort.
It is April 13th and the race is in November and there still is no sign of being able to purchase 3-day tickets anywhere on the track. Right now, the only way to get onto turn one is to pay between $750.00 and $1,250.00 for the privilege of a season ticket - and in order to even buy these tickets you need to have already signed up for a PSL (Preferred Seating License) at a cost of between $3,000.00 and $5,000.00 for a 15-year deal for a race that has a 10-year deal. Even with a 10-year deal, we've seen before that FOM can pull the race at any given moment.
Five of us have been attending the Canadian Grand Prix for 10 years - the grandstand seats on turn one for the 2012 Canadian Grand Prix are less than $500.00 US. Circuit of the Americas needs to get its act together. We're just 6 months away from the inaugural race and no clue what tickets, if any, will be available, and at what final price - once they've exhausted their efforts to lure in the corporate entertainers.
The Brazilian Grand Prix is the most expensive race on the calendar - The Monaco Grand Prix is number 2 - looks like both of these races are currently cheaper than Austin and have a proven track record of being established on the calendar. Do yourself a favor - book your seats for Montreal and forget this Mickey Mouse outfit. I will be surprised if the US Grand Prix and Bahrain are not both pulled from the calendar in the coming months.
I would love to go see this race in person but at those prices there is no way I will go.
Looks like the cheapest seat is Turn 15 right beside the track (and behind safety fences). $1500 for the country club membership (sorry, PSL) and $375 a year.
Meanwhile, tickets for Le Mans including a grandstand seat, access to much of the track AND a week's accomodation in a Flexotel are less than most of these.
How often is Monaco the cheap option?
Things are not looking so bright for my potential road trip to see the V8 Supercars..... I just joined the mailing list earlier this week I guess I should check my email.

I guess all we want to do is buy tickets and plan the trip.
Track looks like it's in the preliminary stages, tickets are nowhere near on sale (at the price we're used to), Austin hotels have clubbed together and jacked up their prices, infrastructure around the track is inadequate - if you live in Texas, all well and good - if you're coming in from outside, the race weekend doesn't look doable.
Circuit of the Americas got the race - just get it together and market it like other tracks do around the world. It's that simple. I can see T E X A S in large white letters in the empty grandstands at turn one, just like China, at this rate.
I'm still skeptical that they will hold a race at all. This is just an elaborate scam to bilk the kind of people who pay to go to the superbowl before the whole thing runs out of funding.
Remember the US F1 team? Remember how adamant the propaganda was that they were going to make it and really they just scammed Argentina out of about the same sum as it's annual GDP in funding? Some Texans are getting berkeleyed right now.

Yep - and poor old Peter Windsor, who spear headed the whole thing, hasn't really been in the public spotlight since.
I don't think the race will happen. This is too much like the Donington team when they were trying to get the British Grand Prix from Silverstone - all talk, lots of 'construction' going on at the track - no tarmac, just the 'look' of something happening - Bernie extended them and extended them again and they ran out of money and Silverstone got the new deal.
Hey, there's always New Jersey to get excited about in 2013.
Let's take a look at what you get for the PSL:
Indycar - http://indycar.com/schedule/ - nothing scheduled in Austin
Moto GP - http://www.motogp.com/en/calendar+circuits - nothing scheduled in Austin
V8 Supercars - http://www.v8supercars.com.au/championship/calendar/tabid/89/default.aspx - nothing scheduled in Austin
So, a 'season ticket' for 2012 in which the 'season' only has the Grand Prix on the calendar. They must think we were born yesterday.
Its crap like this that gives F1 a bad name.
I'd like to become interested in F1, as the technology is amazing, but this kind of soap opera, and fan gouging just turns me off.
While the Indy 500 doesn't hold the appeal of an F1 race, it is still an incredible event to be at, with amazing history. My (very nice) seats at Indy are $100 a piece. No "membership" required, no long-term commitment, just a ticket.
The Daytona 500 is around $65 these days, a World Challenge race even less.
I just don't see how they justify ripping their most loyal fans off. Not a great way to make in-roads in the U.S.
My season pass to Mid Ohio is less than $300, is an F1 race really that much better than the ALMS, Indy Car, Grand Am and whatever else is running there?
TV and the internet get me the race for next to nothing, sorry F1.
OK, this is not my ticket, but I was at this event in '73.
After seeing F1 racing back in the day, it would be hard for me to take the ticket prices quoted above as anything more than a cruel joke.
My yearly racing budget, racing an actual, real car is hardly more than some of the numbers above.
Geeesh.....all that cash just to watch?
You guy are welcome to come to the ~Jefferson 500~ on May17-20, 2012 and see some great racing.
I think Summit Point charges like $15 to get in.
And you can have my autograph for free.

In reply to aeronca65t:
I hit the inflation calculator - that ticket would be $75 now, still crazy cheap! Heck, I spend about 5 times that just to run a weekend DE there.

In other news... I was at the New York Auto Show today and construction on the F1 garage in Weehawken, NJ is coming along nicely.
I fully expect a GA ticket to this race to cost a few hundred, but I'll pay it. Especially since I'll be able to take a train right to the venue from farther south.

Update -
Just received an email this evening from COTA with a special offer to book hotel rooms with their 'hotel partners'. Still no word of any weekend tickets on sale to the non-corporate, non-celebrity down-to-earth hard working F1 race fans.
There's not a chance in the world that I would book a hotel room without knowing I have a race ticket for the weekend.
I am quickly losing interest in supporting this race at all, it the race even happens at this point... but looking forward to Montreal in 5 weeks!
