anyone going to watch?
It's kind of weird..I grew up on the beach, all I ever watch are the swimming & diving, and the volleyball (both kinds). I'd watch the sailing if it was ever televised. And if I catch the water polo on, I'll sit for a few minutes.
i have always been a fan... cant wait.. i do like the winter olympics better... im hoping this winter that there will some ski jumping or bobsled competitions at lake placid.. we went there a few years ago for a weekend and absolutley fell in love with the area,
looking forward to watching... and even thinking of getting cable TV for a month or so purely for the DVR and I can catch a few more events...
When does it start? It seems like these days I just can't keep track of it, and then I find out I missed the whole dang thing.
My friend is (hopefully) qualifying for the mens 1500m race on thursday... I will definitely be watching the qualifying and (if he makes it) the actual race.
I haven't watched since Nagano. But now that I have NBC and all the ESPNs, I might catch some.
My Sister's ex was a backup in Atlanta and a hopeful for Sydney for canoeing. At his peak he was ranked 7th in the US, IIRC. But after '98 he basically fell out of it.
I'm a Winter Olympics person, but my wife is a Summer Olympics person, so I will be watching some of it.
Which network is it on? My $7 homemade HDTV antenna only picks up CBS, ABC and the local public network. If NBC has the rights, I won't be watching any. And I'm not about to go back to paying for a cable.

Its NBC, they have the rights for i think the next ten years or something like that.

Pretty sure there's supposed to be extensive streamed coverage. So assuming you have a decent connection there's that option. I'll likely be streaming to the TV giving me the option to avoid more of the stupid "human interest" stories that seem to take up way more airtime than actual events despite there being more events available than you could possibly cover.
Used to always catch the Canadian coverage when I lived in broadcast range. With the exception of more curling that I cared to watch in the winter, it was always a better choice than US network coverage.

Quoted for truth. Waaaayyyy back when I worked at TNT, they covered part of the Winter Games (Lillehamer 94?). We didn't have a lot of money in the production end of things, just basically borrowed the Talking Heads from our NBA coverage, rented CBS' preset cameras & mikes, fired
em up, and let `er rip.
People loved it, even though we weren't allowed any of the big-time events or Gold Medal rounds unless it was biathlon or something. Especially since the CBS Prime-Time coverage was full of home movies of figure skaters' parents lacing up a 5yr old's skates and "RAH-RAH USA!!" crap. We actually won a few awards from several "Friends Of (insert country your grandparents came from here)" groups for celebrating diversity, since much of our coverage didn't have any American athletes in it.
All because the only thing we could afford to do was actually show the berkelying Olympics. I think there's a lesson here, dang shame no one in the industry seems to have learned it.
I always hate in when the Olympics are on. It plays havoc with all the programming and I can't get excited about it.
BUT, somehow or other I always end up watching part of it. Is that due to the fact that no other network will schedule new shows opposite it or do I somehow get suckered in and am just a closet Olympic freak? Who knows.
But at this point I'm not looking forward to it.
