Anyone got ideas on why the main headlights on the 4runner arent working. The running lights are lit and the headlights will come on if you pull for "bright lites". I have looked for fuses; is there a relay or something that I am missing?

What year? I have a 2007 - fuse panel under the hood - secondary one behind the dash - access by left side of lower dash/knee pad. Same lamp for dims/brights? With both out, I would suspect something like a faulty switch/fuse/relay rather than lamp. Cross your fingers for a relay.

1996(sorry, I should have posted that) Any ideas where that relay would reside?

I think with a 96 each headlight has a separate fuse. Also check the obvious - the bulbs - it is odd they both blow at the same time, but it does happen. Check your relays - swap your daylight running light relay with the headlamp relay. I'm not sure on exact location, but pretty sure these will be in the under hood electrical panel.

Had a friend bring his Trooper over one night because his lights quit. Had highs, but no low beams. Went through it with a volt meter. Both bulbs were blown. He had apparently been driving with only one low beam for a while. Then the other one quit. Changed the bulbs and no problem since. Get out the volt meter and test for power at the sockets. I'm guessing bulbs.

Two blown bulbs are the most likely, the fuses are for each filament, and are under the hood, on the left side as I recall. Behind the battery.

Thanks, it is our "snow" vehicle and East Tenn is undergoing the second day of a winter storm. Spent last nite in Asheville(our miata group toured Grove Park and the Biltmore House yesterday) and woke up to approx 5 inches of snow. We drove the MS6 and it did very well in getting us off the mountain. Nothing else I own does well in the winter weather so I need to get the 4runner lights fixed.
I will dig it out of the snow/ice tomorrow and check out the fuses and bulbs. Sounds like it should be something easy to fix if my hands dont stiffen up.
