Having spent a week on jury duty in a civil trial where someone got sued in tractor trailer accident, I can appreciate this.
Guy sues another driver for $5 mil, looks good. At the last hearing where a decision is to be made the opposing lawyer gets a tip ....

What are you doing Saturday?
That story makes me think "SUNDAY! SUNDAY! SUNDAY! EVE OF DESTRUCTION"

I wish more of this would show up. I work insurance as well, and it bothers me when I KNOW that someones' screwing the system, and we can't do anything.
WOW ! if his lawyer is one of those "I get 1/3" situations, that guy better be watching over his shoulder forever!

oh, and I guess, coincidentally, his good day also just happened to be a race day and his car required no physical activity to prepare, load, drive to, or compete in said race. Also, he just happened to be able to squirm out of a wrecked car window, despite his "injuries and disabilities", due to how good a day he was having.
I dont doubt that there are people injured in accidents which are not their fault, who are injured so severely that it will impact the quality of the rest of their life. I would assume though, that a very small percentage also pursue a race career - hobbyist or otherwise. This guy was running a con and gt busted - case closed.
I'm just curious who ratted him out. Piss off a neighbor? Lip off to a coworker lately? Brag about free money?

of course! g/f works in insurance, and has heard that exact defense come out of the mouth of not the attorney, but the judge in a similar case. not as extreme as racing/wrecking, but caught on video lifting heavy things, mowing, etc. when they said they couldn't lift over 5lbs and couldn't walk upright.
But this thread told me "Me love you long time..."
sounds like there might be grounds for some kind of attempted fraud investigation ........
I might even be inclined to find for the defendant regardless of his underinsured status, due to the lying greedy antics of the plaintiff... 'course that might be why I'll probably never be considered for a spot on the judicial bench

Even if that's the case, why did he engage in an activity that could easily cause further injury? I just don't buy it.
I'm glad he got caught. Methinks some insurance fraud problems will soon be going his way.
In my practice, I have been authorized by clients to spend rather obscene money to find evidence of such a fraud when the grounds exist. Not easy to do but it is amazing how stupid some people are. It really pisses me off when the attorney is part of the scam too.

sorry, i think a few people have misunderstood. my statement was satire, i have no sympathy for those that try to defraud insurance company, nor those companies that deny claims simply because they know the insured doesn't have the means to fight it.

Oh, then you're correct. Your statement went completely over my head. Stupid internet not giving me vocal cues!
