Over 5 billion transistors and 8GB of RAM? Can't WAIT for Forza 5!
nope....I just could not get into it. I bought an xbox 360 hoping to practice sebring, but the lack of butt dyno made it feel really weird. I rarely spin in autocross, but was spinning constantly in the game.
I gave up, and it has been sitting in the corner gathering dust for over a year.
(To be fair, I've never been much of a gamer, anyway)

5 billion transistors is not really that much.
if you took just a GF100 Fermi chip on the top end video cards has 3.2 billion. and some gaming rigs have 2 of THOSE. then you have the processor.. and a Six-Core Xeon E5, has 2.7 billion. and that is not getting into the motherboard, sounds, etc..
technology is amazing when you think about it... a little over a hundred years ago, the first trnasistor was created.. and it was bigger than a breadbox. NOW the iphone has 42 million in it.
Interesting choice in the name. I was hearing it was going to be XBox Infinity. I am watching it now. I too, cannot wait for Forza 5. I will buy one when Forza 5 comes out. Racing games are always what have pushed me over to buying a console.
Meh. Until its as much of a do-all box as the Playstation, I won't be converting. Is Xbox live still a subscribtion based program? Until then I'll stick with my Sony.
<- Hater.
I was hoping Forza 5 would be on the 360. I'm not spending the better part of a thousand bucks for another racing game.

Must not be much of an online gamer, the Sony SUCKS at that. I have a PS3 and an Xbox 360 and the only time the PS3 has been on in the last two years has been to play blu-rays.

My middle of the road gaming laptop did this- 4 years ago. It'll be a stupid fun game for sure.... but trying to tout those statistics like they're badass to any hardcore gamer/tech nerd is just pissing into the wind.

Same here.
And that's coming from a guy who grew up with Playstation consoles. After playing Forza 3 and then Forza 4, going back and playing GT5 on PS3 after being a GT1-GT4 fanboy for so many years was a total letdown.

My son is constantly playing various CoD and Battlefield games with his buddies online on the PS3 and it works great. Yes, there have been a couple of outages, but not so often that I'd be willing to actually pay for an alternative. Neither does he, for that matter. His friends all have PS3s, so until you can play those games online across platforms, our 360 will continue to gather dust like it has since we bought it.
IMO, both systems are great from a hardware and game-selection standpoint. Just pick one. I don't get the hate between the fans of them, but I suppose it's like Apple vs. Microsoft, Ford vs. Chevy, etc.

You must not have had a PS3 during the PSN hacking and subsequent rehacking fiasco. I sold off my PS3 and games at about that point......I know most of the old guard of fast racers ditched GT5 and came to FM4 at that point as well. Most seemed absolutely amazed with the gameplay....and the fact 60% of the cars forza had weren't a different variation of a rx7, silvia, skyline, or supra.
Otherwise, you would be correct Tom. Its a pissing match, normally initiated by the PS crowd(as seen above).

I agree pick one they both work fine, but the online functionality of the PS3 does not "work great," compared to the xbox. I have played CoD on both the PS3 and Xbox too much for comfort (I should be embarrassed, I'm too old for that, but instead I'm psyched that I can keep up with the kids) and the PS3 has way more drops, disconnects, lost matches, etc. The xbox is far from perfect but as limited as my gaming time is nowadays, I'm not going to spend it waiting on a lobby to fill up with players just to have it drop.
You pay $0, you get your money's worth. At $40/year, the increased usefulness and usability of the xbox online functionality is worth it to me. If I was a poor kid saving paper route money to buy a console then it might be different.

100% agree. I bought a PS3 right after it came out because I wanted GT5. I waited for years for that bloody game and bought a 360 in the interim to play Forza 2, 3, and 4--all of which were bloody amazing games. After finally getting GT5, I played it for about two weeks, then went back to playing Forza.
I'm very, VERY disappointed that Forza 5 is coming out on the new system. I desperately want a new racing sim, but there's no way I can justify spending all that money on a new system whenever the only game I'll play is Forza.
Being a responsible adult sucks!

We did, but he wasn't really playing online much back then. I guess the bottom line for me is that the reliability of my online gaming access isn't important enough to justify paying a monthly fee.
I will grant you that Forza beats GT5 pretty handily. And I played the hell out of GT3 and 4 on the PS2. The little $30 wireless wheel that MS sells is great, too.
I dunno, we bought the PS3 like 5 years ago when Blu-ray players were still rare and expensive enough that it made sense to get a console with one built-in. Otherwise we could have flipped a coin as to which one we'd have bought, the specs were pretty similar. Now we have a bunch of games and my son has a bunch of friends on PSN, so even though we've added a 360, it rarely gets used. Six of one, half-dozen of the other, IMO.
z31maniac wrote: The specs on both new platforms is kind of disappointing. They should really give them more juice!
You have to consider what they have done with the current platforms, they are pretty wimpy by today's standards. e.g. both the PS3 and Xbox 360 have 512 mb or ram! (split between GPU and CPU for PS3, shared for Xbox)
Ran across this info (probably more to come):
The last one is kind of funny, I guess they were expecting more.
I will say that Microsoft has dropped the ball when it comes to Indie games. Sony's been doing a lot of outreach to Indies with the PS4 launch, and I'm hopeful that means someone will have a good platform for them. Some of the best gaming I've done in years was indie games. (Geometry Wars 2! Decimation X!) But Microsoft has made it artificially difficult for indie developers.
We have one of each. The Xbox gets used for Forza and Minecraft, everything else is done on the PS3.
Personally I like the PS3 better but the Xbox has its uses.

Thats because the game disc will only be required for install one time......no more requiring the damn thing in the disc drive anymore.

It will be alright.....in another 6 years after 4 missed deadlines.
