Before anyone wrecks their hardware thinking 'everything is covered', read the fine print again. Physical abuse (anything beyond normal wear and tear), usually isn't covered. Neither is water damage.

If you really want to use your warranty, and you have an old microwave sitting around, there is a solution for you.

Take out any batteries your electronic device has (sorry iStuff users), and pop it in the microwave for a few seconds. Heck, one second might be enough, so start there. Don't go above ten seconds. Take the device out of the microwave after every run and test it. Once it's dead, you can return it. The warranty stickers will be tact, there won't be any sign of abuse, and it won't work. Either a chip or a capacitor will have blown, and that will be impossible to distinguish from electronic failure on a tech bench.

So I am the only one who gets any use out of warranties because I have got them on all three of my computers and I have used the hell out of the warranties (minus my current one).

been the norm for the last 7 or so years...

windows yells at you to make a backup even untill you decide to tell it to not remind you anymore...

I make disc set for every computer I get... and then rip it to ISO and that sits on my external for an additional "just in case"

Lesson: Don't buy extended warranties on rapidly depreciating assets.

Apparently. Both my home and work computer are more than 5 years old and I've had no issues. If I did, I'd throw it out and get a new one as both are worth nothing.

My first one went thru 4 harddrives in 2 years before I dumped it. Then the second ate 5 power supplies and one battery in two years so the warranties were worth it in my opinion.

On the warranties, Best Buy had two, one that covered normal wear and tear etc. or for $60 more there is the accidental coverage that if you drop it, spill something on it, or chuck it across the room, it's covered. I made sure what was covered before I spent the extra $60 and I printed out the "coverage" to make sure I had it in writing.

By what it says, I have personal accident coverage, so if I drop it accidentally, it's covered.
