Yeah, I saw more parts flying last night than in a whole season of the old show. It was cool.

I knew Grant did, I was pretty sure Adam did, but I dont remember seeing Jamie's walrus 'stache and berret.
Captain Shrederator is from my neighborhood. The things you learn via your community message board, huh?

BTW I nerd out on combots pretty hard.
Haven't watched, wasn't aware it was coming back, but ABSOLUTELY will be follwing it now. I can't find the full rules anywhere, which is bothering me greatly since I can't bench race without a ruleset...
I will look it up, but can someone post what channel / time this is on. I missed it last week because I did not notice it when doing a quick scan.

Yeah, that one looks formidable. Kinda didn't agree with the ruling on the ensnarement gambit. It was taken out of the rules, the guy exploited it, I applaud him for it. Because "its always been that way" is not a good reason to overturn it. Im sure it was all scripted in there but still....
Half these things look they could be killed by a low to the ground wedge with a big motor to push them around.
I have to say I am impressed with the show. I was a bit worried they would up the reality aspects of it. But that does not seem to be an issue. There was some sort of British show that was on previously that had traps like this one, but also had some ridiculous "boss bots" that ran around.
Love the creativity of the bots. Last I watched, I had though there was a particular design that was dominating (wedges?). Also interesting that they seem to allow some amount of automation (auto guidance etc.)

The automation is new and it seems it might just be the one guy exploiting it for now. The one thing I do recall from the past series and following along outside of the show is that if something starts to dominate they find ways to tweak the rules to level the field again.
I had no idea this was on ABC. I can't believe I could have been watching this and missed it. I thought it would be on a cable channel that I don't get.
some good battles tonite. The wife is even almost getting into it at this point. She's just afraid I'm going to start building one.
Just need to make a four sided wedge and mount the whole thing on a central spinning core, and you'll take out everyone. It was hilarious to see the bot that looked like a sailboat get annihilated immediately. Pretty doesn't play well in combat, no matter how long they spend on your intro back story...
Are there written rules anywhere (cliffs might be better)?
I saw the 'no ensnarement' rule for the net last week.
Could you get by that by having 10 redundant sets of extra long wiring running through a thin, easily broken cover?
I'm also thinking suction cups, nailguns, ramset fasteners based on the 22 cartridge, etc.
Are there weight and size restrictions? If so, what are they?
I racked my brain for a long time trying to figure out a search term that could get me that information, and it turned out that googling "Battlebots rules" worked...
Or, in a less snarky response, the rules they are operating under this year are loosey-goosey rules written for the experienced bot builders they invited this year, and they have not finished writing the rules for next year's competition yet. I'm guessing the no entanglement devices bit will be clearly stated next time.
This time it seems that 250lbs is the weight cap, and the only size limit is the 8x8 door to enter the battle arena. There's no specific exclusion to projectile weapons(can't use an EMP though), as long as they do not appear to be specifically designed to clutter the arena and impede the mobility of the other bot.
As a counterpoint though, in their rules this time they state that they should not be able to "jam the blade of a long screwdriver through the outer shell/frame of the bot and hit a battery, pressure tank, fuel tank or fuel line.". If an adult human should not be able to damage it with a tool specifically designed to punch and pry, then I doubt a functional projectile weapon can be carried by a robot that would do more damage...
