The Expendables Could this be the best action movie ever? Definitely the best cast.

the "best" cast? It is probably one of the most expensive casts.
that being said, I will go see the movie though.
In reply to maroon92:Perhaps I was a bit over the top with the best as a few are missing: JCVD and Seagal turned down roles and I don't even know if Chuck was asked. It does have just about everyone else I like to see in an action flick though.

I'm sure "no animals were hurt during the filming..... blah blah blah."
I vote for Die Hard. The first one with Alan Rickman is awesome. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KShj0gPAH0g

The trick is not to give away the scene or it's contents. It's kind of like this.

I'm pretty sure all the animals were hurt or killed during the filming of that. I actually winced watching them smash the horses into the ground.
Ninja assasin.....recent movie anyway. Blood EVERYWHERE! and plenty of gratuitus slicing and dicing.

No actual zombies, yakuza, or samurai were harmed in making this movie.
(actually, the main (?) character broke a tooth when he tried to rack a pistol by holding the slide between his teeth)

Just got it from Netflix in the mail today. Can't wait!

Note to self, do not go to Japan in case of zombie apocalypse. Now I need to find that movie.

Fixed that for you.
Die Hard is sort of the perfect template for action movies, but I'll mention a few others. I know a lot of people like John Woo's Hard Boiled, but I honestly wasn't very impressed. Terminator 2 is quite good, as is the first Matrix. I'm a big fan of Kill Bill Vol. 1 as well. Heat and Way of the Gun are pretty good, too.
And just for a wild card I'll throw out Battle Royale.

don't know about the movie but the book is pretty darn good (Leonard B Scott)
In reply to 92dxman: I wouldn't call it the best, but it is pretty darn good. Delta Force has Chuck and Lee Marvin, which ups the awesomeness. Aside from that it's pretty standard fare after that. If Special Forces movies are your thing, try to find The Final Option (aka Who Dares Wins). It's a fictionalized account of the SAS takedown of the Iranian Embassy at Princess Gate. Starts off pretty slow, but the final takedown is pretty good. It is on DVD, but you've got to have multiregional capability on the player.

That movie is so full of WIN.
My favorite part is when Kiriyama sorts thrue the weapons after taking out the gang. Guns, granades, nunchucks... berkeley the nunchucks
The book is good too and has a more twisted back story to the BR program.
That Indian clip was epic. Although, I too cringed at seeing what happened to the livestock.
That said, who needs wired harnesses and special effects when you have Tony Jaa.

I'll second the Die Hard comment. It was on this weekend. Even with commercial breaks and the editing for TV, it was totally watchable.
