Just wrote an article for Ehow about inspecting a car for rust, and I would appreciate some feedback.

The article is here-

http://www.ehow.com/how_5116191_inspect-car-rust.html

I think I've covered the bases pretty good, technically speaking, but what about readability? Is it vague? Is it spot on? Should there be more detail? Less?

My chief worry is that the article is too long, yet some of the other Ehows are a friggen joke, think "How to repair rust" in about four steps, when it took Per several issues and many steps to cover the same thing properly. Most Ehows are stupid short, I think because people are sacrificing quality to turn out a quick article.

I realize that there's limited direct return from investing time in writing these articles, but my real aim is to build a body of work that I can point to in the future when seeking freelance writing assignments. I want to know if this article would impress someone looking to hire a writer for something similar.

So, any of your thoughts would be appreciated.

not a detailed analysis, but here are a few thoughts.

Id put more emphasis and the different stages of rust, ie surface rust can be acceptable, where penetrating rust can be dangerous/expensive to repair, and how to distinguish between them.

I'd also modify step ten, it reads your done, but immediately following the most critical rust on the underbody is discussed.

over all pretty good, I enjoyed it.

If a perspective buyer "stabbed my car with a screwdriver" multiple times as your article suggests they do, I would probably stab them with a screwdriver.

A seller is welcome to look it over for rust, but unless its a shell thats gonna get a complete resto anyway, keep the instruments of destruction a safe distance from my car.
