Once tube frames became popular you could use any body. Some went with what was cheapest, others picked something to be different VW Rabbit

Pacer

Actually, the above pic is of East Coast legend and some say the father of East Coast modifieds, Dave Kneisel. Said to be the first to run tri-five frame with pre-war body and offset and set back motor and driver. He also played around a little with center drive to set back motor more. Mr. Kneisel's modified racer below:

And just for the heck of it, hotlink of my gramps. He used to race Dave, Ed "Fast Eddie" Spencer Sr., and other notables :

In reply to phaze1todd:

The Chevy chassis cars were probably some of the best looking dirt cars. I think for building a streetable one that would be the way to go. We were talking about doing that someday with my father as he would like one to play with. We didn't know much about them though as we had always run asphalt and had switched over to running stock cars by the time they started building cars like that.

The view upstream from the Columbia Mutual Tower in Memphis on Feb. 9, 1937. The swollen Mississippi River rose to a record 48.7 feet in 1937. Before it was confined by levees, the Mississippi overflow from the runoff of 31 states regularly created a lake almost as large as Ireland. (Courtesy U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Memphis District)

One of my favorite pictures of the levee at Vicksburg, Ms. That top mark really is 62.5 feet up.
