Interesting, but I think it would have looked much nicer with more stock headlights and taillights. Wheels seem larger then they need to be also.

Looks like a twin plug set up on something modern. Maybe a new/Gen II Hemi? but it looks smaller than that, and the strut towers look Asian...
That's a Gen III Hemi race engine in a Chrysler LX chassis, more than likely a Drag Pak Challenger

I remember some time around 1987 when they couldn't sell the consumer cars - my dad got an invitation to go to Scotland, do a track day in an RS200 with Jackie Stewart as the driving coach. He went to Scotland and went golfing instead - ugh. If I remember, they were offering them for around $70,000

You missed some of the best pics:

I learned something today......I don't think I can hate a ghia. So good looking.

One of the lottery builds in my head is a Ghia body over an AC 911 or boxster. Bosxter beetle has been done.

I have to agree. I would prefer a MUCH more stock look.
Hopefully my Ghia will be returning home soon, and hopefully to eventually look a bit like this. Mine is a bit older, and I am not sure if it was a two tone but I am pretty sure it was bamboo yellow. I need to send off to VW for the original build sheet.
