My '67 TR4 had that problem. Of course my date at the time wasn't amused when the tire landed on the hood and bounced off down the road!
"Hi, I'm just here to make a 600+hp engine legal for a sanctioning body that says you gotta race what you build."
"Sup?"
"Hi, I'm only here because the SCCA says you have to run production parts and less than 305ci. They said I make 290hp at 5800 but they are keeping quiet over how much power I make past that..."
"Mind if I join you?"
(I read an article where someone built a near-as-possible replica of a Boss 302 engine, which was rated at 290hp at 5800 just like the DZ302 in the Z/28. It made 390hp at some figure over 7000...)
Interesting photo: Boss 302 intake gasket overlaid on a DZ302 intake port.
Can't find the photo I took last year, of when I did heads on a 351C-4V in a '71 Mustang. Boss 302s had the same port size as a 351C-4V. I laid a dollar bill over the intake flange for comparison...
I don't remember ever seeing factory ports that big, and I've worked on a bunch of BBCs and used to own a 429-4V. (D2VE heads)
