They make lots of wind noise at 70.
My dad is also partial to using his miata for hauling.
Those are cardboard type tubes they needed to roll up some backdrops, somewhere I have a picture of him using it to haul half a dozen 2x4s in the same manner.
Wish I had a photo of my 91 Miata when I used to autocross seriously with no tow car. I could fit the following in the car. Two R comps and wheels in the trunk, two more in the passenger seat. Tool box, jack and jack stands (2) in the trunk. Helmet bag, sleeping bag and tent on the rear shelf. Clothes in the trunk. Soft sided cooler in the passenger footwell partially squashed by the R comps. other personal stuff scattered around. It worked fine, but it did mean I needed a rest stop to put the soft top down as I had to take the the helmet and camp stuff off that back ledge first. Did all CenDiv events, Pro-Solo's and some other random out of town stuff that way. I only took the camping stuff with me 50% of the time, when I was sharing a hotel room I had the luxury of extra space.
Here's our old sport utility vehicle working on the utility side. YEs the trunk is full as well.
