Those starters were built by Curtis Kraft of Indy and Midget fame.
The starters, I saw I though had 4 motors in them?
The nail head was chosen for its torque output.

Each cart had two side by side. Each engine got its own cart. Even after they switched to 454s, they were always known as "Buicks."
