It's just wrong.
It's also a reference to St Louis style pizza in which a perfectly innocent round pizza is rendered an inedible mess by inexplicably cutting it into a few squares that are loaded with sauce and cheese but have no gripping point and a large number of bizarre edge shards that have a grip but not much else.
