You owe my a keyboard.
bludroptop wrote:EricM wrote:"With teletype interface and the Fortran language, the computer will be easy to use." The photo appears to be circa 1954. This was reality in my home by 1968 - a teletype machine connected via modem to an off-site IBM 360 (Dad was in the computer business early on). As I recall, Fortran was in use as was BASIC. Obviously no GUI - input was via keyboard and output was mechanically printed text. The problem was that there were obviously no applications suited for a home user other than some goofy games used for demonstration purposes. But as a 10 year old, I was probably the first kid to come home from school and play "computer games" in my family room. Sorry for the diversion down memory lane - now back to your regularly scheduled programming....![]()
You guys do realize this photo is a hoax right?

I spent a lot of hours looking at panels just like that. Those are not from the 50's. They are from a nuclear powered submarine though. I didn't follow the links to fark or snopes, but I would guess they are the panels displayed at the Smithsonian in celebration of the submarine centennial - which would make them mostly from the USS Archersish (or was it Sandlance?) . If the pic is from that exhibit the throttle wheels in the picture came from the Billfish as well as a few other bits and pieces.

As a bus driver in a city with a small university, and a community college, this is more realistic. Especially on pub nights
