If I ever had to drop the turbo shadow at the shop, I'd have to draw a little diagram for reverse and tape it to the shifter.

As I recall, my GT6 was to the left of second. I think. it's been a long time.
makes me miss my 914 and 911. I liked the dog leg first. I am sure that would really confuse a thief

Yup, reverse is UNDER 2nd.

Gong from the 5-speed in my MR2 to my mazdaspeed3 it took some mental retraining that I wasn't about to put it in reverse at highway speeds and instead was just shifting into 6th.
the new nissan frontiers (probably others too) have six gears, so reverse is far right and down, but you have to press down before you go completely right.
Its weird. I've accidentally had my dad's truck in 6th in the garage a few times; its scary when you turn around to look behind you and end up going forward!!

I have the opposite problem, I drive 5 speed cars now and try and put the damn things in reverse at speed. Thank god they've all had lockouts thusfar. My personal favorite is still the once a year I end up driving a slushbox and I mash the brake looking to downshift to 3rd to take a cloverleaf and end up locking the car up at like...70. More than a few rental cars have met that treatment from me.

My GT6 is up-left of 1st, typical of 3-rail transmissions. The M41 in our Volvos are the same. My g/f's '79 Spitfire (single-rail trans) is up-right next to 3rd. Drives her nuts sometimes. My Mini is down-right, but being RHD it doesn't bother me since the whole experience is different when shifting with your left hand.
The oddest I ever tried to drive was my father's old Datsun F10, which had reverse next to 2nd and a dog-leg 1-2 pattern and 5th down-right (similar to Euro BMW and M-B competition trans).

Nah, if they were that crafty they wouldn't have to steal stuff
