I purchased a security system that has hard wired cameras.  Some of the cameras are too far away and require an extension.  The extensions that were recommended couldn't be plugged in because both sides were female.  I purchased a double sided male connector to adapt the two, but I still have no picture on the cameras with extensions.  Are there different types of coax?

Thanks in advance.

There are some differences.  Are they permanently run yet, or could you try the extension cable in place of one of the short runs or two of the original cables using the splice you bought? That might narrow down the trouble shooting to the splice or the extension cable.

There are different types of coax. I'm assuming that the camera power is local to the camera and not run all the way back to the dvr. Where did the original cables come from? Are they pre-made?
