The CD manufacturer screwed up and doubled the order.
With the advent of digital downloads the physical album is no longer in style. Soon there will be no album to hold in your hands, It is going to be a coupon to download the album.
Want a case of probot CDs?

The Probot CDs are no problem, I have 8 pallets of them to give away..
Wait, WHAT?! Probot was an awesome album, why are there so many just sitting around? I know "Shake Your Blood" was the main track people heard, but I love "Sweet Dreams" a little more.
In fact, I'm listening to it on Amazon Prime right now. Hmm, I may have just answered my own question...
A trend that has been picking up steam lately is the resurgence of vinyl LP's and download codes. A lot of the bands I listen to offer their stuff on vinyl and give you a download code so you can take the music with you on the electronic device of your choice. That way, you get the full deal artwork and a physical medium AND the convenience of having the MP3's on your device. This isn't nearly as viable as selling an album online via download code, but it's a cool option for people that really like the bands and have the means to play vinyl at home.

Can I just point out how awesome the GRM world is? We not only have Dave Grohl's uncle as a forum member, we also have one of his posse. Once again proving that the ultimate unifier across all humanity is cars. If "Miata" is the answer for "What Car?", then "Dave Grohl" should be the answer for something.

It's true: cars are a great equalizer among the elite rock stars and regular dudes! Ask Tim Suddard: he got to hang out with Brian Johnson (of AC/DC fame) to talk about cars and charitable endeavors involving cars. The singer of freaking AC/DC!
Car people are car people, no matter what they do.

I got a fleeting few minutes to interview Brian Johnson back in 2011:

Pretty much the highlight of my auto journalist career so far. Nothing close to the amount of time I'm sure Tim has spent with an endless list of awesome people though.
In reply to slefain:
I keep hoping Tim will recruit Brian as a Challenge judge someday.
^^^ you know, I could see that happening if Brian ever has the free time. He's a complete car nut, and would get a kick out of the challenge. I've been lucky enough to meet and hang out with him a few times---- always a funny, fantastic experience. The guy is a live-wire!

Funny coincidence - I just happened to watch a Youtube video yesterday about some guy who won a contest to meet with the Foo Fighters and tour the facility, and Dave loaded him up with several cases of the Probot CDs.

I wonder what that cost him. No matter, he could afford it. I could always ask his mommy.
In reply to MulletTruck:
Cool read, I was curious about the details. Thanks for sharing!
cwh, That was a whole lot of fiction on the builders part. It was not quite as it was said.

I hadn't read this thread in months and missed the free swag offer on page 2. I couldn't name a single Foo Fighters song (I did enjoy the Sound City movie, and, of course know Nirvana) but reading through this thread makes me happy.
Hey CWH, Looks like your Sister and Nephew will be on the road soon signing some books!
My copy arrived today as well! Or should I say my moms copy, it's a Mother's Day gift!

In reply to David S. Wallens:
I think that there's a parallel for musicians that cars also can serve as an outlet of expression, and sometimes for aggression.
