Because everything needs to be computerised and automated. It makes things better, right? Everyone needs the newest, latest and greatest widget so they can feel better. That's why the new Ford can park itself. If we can't make an oven that works properly, I'm scared to think about self-parking cars. Shawn
Careful. I said something similar in another thread and got called a behind the times Luddite.

I wear that badge proudly. I replaced a 97 van with a 93 wagon just so I could get a little farther behind the times.

This is exactly why I am reluctant to get a new wall oven. Everything is digitally controlled and the circuit board or something craps out and you end up SOL. What is the purpose putting a digital controls in everything, when analog devices crap out you can troubleshoot and repair them, if a circuit board shorts what are you going to do?

Good luck, hopefully you get the issue resolved.

my mom had an encounter with what can go wrong on a newer electric oven a few months ago.. well, it wasn't a "newer" oven in the modern sense of the word- it was from 1995 or so- but one day when she was cooking brownies she heard a "click" followed a few minutes later by black smoke pouring out of the oven.. it decided to go into self cleaning mode and only shut itself off after about 15 minutes when the breaker tripped. i asked her why she didn't just run downstairs and trip the breaker herself, and she said she just panicked and didn't think of that.. i forget what brand it was, but the local repair guy said to just throw it out and get a new oven since it would be cheaper than fixing everything that was wrong with that one..

the replacement was a shiny new black GE from Home Depot. it takes 20 minutes to preheat enough to cook a pizza and it randomly decides to go into what the manual calls "Sabbath mode" where it just turns itself on and gets up to a preset temperature. of course GE "customer service" is of no assistance and Home Depot doesn't want it back.. she is disappointed and just wants to find a nice old school pre computer range that has a knob for each burner and an analog timer on it, but they are all long gone..

I love gas ovens

That being said, our newer oven, 3 years old, is gas, 5 burner w/ nobs, and comp controlled oven. I think maybe the lowest level gas oven might still have a nob for the oven.

I've had my control panel replaced twice on my wall oven. It will just display F7 or some such out of the blue. I hate that.

I'll create a new thread for how to win the Googles.

Our trusty local repair guy (NOT Samsung authorized) came out today.

"The locking motor died. You don't need it so I just disconnected it. Just don't try to use the self-clean feature and you'll be golden."

There's a reason I keep going back to these guys.

Good to hear its functional. Hes probably not an authorized technician because he didn't force you to buy the (likely exorbitantly priced) part.
