holy berkeleying E36 M3! at first i thought it was pretty comical stuff, just because they play so fast. but by the end of the disc ("Inhuman Rampage"), i was a fan. i'm going to see them at a pretty small local place in december.
then to get back to some kind of equilibrium, i'm going to see Stanley Jordan at Blues Alley in Georgetown (DC) in March.
I gave them a chance, but I like my metal slow and sinister TYVM
I saw them open for Chimaera and Killswitch Engage. I was not a fan, but will admit that they can play insanely disgustingly face-meltingly fast.
I'll take "chugga-chugga" metal over their "epic" metal any day.
And AC, if you like them, check out Protest the Hero. They use some elements of Dragonforce-type stuff, but then mix it with standard metal and metalcore. They're amazing.
I have heard them play a a while a go pretty good stuff.
Saw them live at Ozzfest a couple years ago, as one of the early bands on the main stage. Live they were pretty cool, but after listening to some of their studio albums, I couldn't differentiate one song from the next. Technically amazing but musically kinda so-so.

Also, I'm greatly looking forward to Dethklok's new album coming out later this year

exactly why it took me a while to get into it. first time through, first song, i really did LOL at how comically fast they played. there's no way they can keep up this frantic pace, i thought. but there it was, seven and a half minutes of ridiculous speed. then the second song began and i thought i had my CD player on repeat. frantic pace, double-bass fury, killing the snare drum, much fretboard masturbation, weedly weedly wee!
but by the end of the CD i realized that today's metal doesn't do it for me, and i really missed the super-speed stuff from my youth (grad from HS in 1984).
their epic battle at the edge of the fiery abyss lyrics are not exactly my taste, but some might say it's just Springsteen's "Jungleland" in a different time. OK, so maybe i'm the only person who might say that.

I never have been able to spell their name correctly haha. Despite the spelling, they were brutal as hell. It was awesome.
And yes, Dethklok's new album will hopefully be as hilarious/awesome as their first!

If you want to hear some highly technical stuff is more listenable than Dragonforce, I highly recommend Liquid Tension Experiment. It is basically 3/5ths of Dream Theater minus the lead singer (and dramatic volcals) and bassist and add in Tony Levin on bass (hes played with Peter Gabriel and in one of the zillion incarnations of King Crimson). They have two albums as the full band and also one of the band minus any guitars.

Listen to Lamb of God's earlier stuff. That is all. Oh, and for giggles, here's my buddy Mike's band Hot Graves. Yes, you're supposed to giggle:

There was a band here in town...called Battle Master.
They did a lot of dungeons and dragons lyrics to metal. Between songs the lead singer would stomp around on stage with a battle axe. While talking up the crowd between songs he would use a lot of "ye's" and "thou's" to sound all middle earth-ish.
Pretty funny stuff.

My metalhead students introduced me to them, but most of them take it as novelty music. I've also heard that they're a horrid live band--especially of they're too loaded.
I was just shocked to know that music like this still exists. It's like Maiden on meth.
OK, you guys did it...I went & bought "Ultra Beatdown" yesterday. So far, I'm really impressed with these guys!
