Plumbing business.
You know... where they lay pipe.
Ironically. I am good friends with a plumber!!!
Met Dan Gurney, but that was at a race track, specifically Topeka on the afternoon before Fangio won Toyota's first GTP race. Gurney was the Team Manager.

Spotted Tiff Needell standing near pit-in with his son at Mid-Ohio during an ALMS session in 2008(?). Very gracious, receptive of my awkward compliments, and nice enough to get a pic (shot by his son). As best I recall, later found out that he was working on a documentary/series following Lord Drayson's exploits.
I met Tiff that same weekend. I was showing my 5 year old son the Drayson Aston when Tiff and some camera guys came up in a golf cart. I said hi and that I liked his show and them he was off.

Took a whiz with Graham Parker in Toad's Place men's room
When I was in highschool (early 00's) my mother and I went downtown (columbus oh) to see Fiddler On the Roof. On the way back we stop by the local Steak and Shake and end up meeting Stained and getting to shake their hands.

That reminds me I got to meet Stone Temple Pilots backstage from winning a radio contest. Megadeth w/ STP opening.
I kept asking who these shiny happy people were and when to I meet Dave Mustaine?
I met Carol Shelby in a Vegas Casino once. Dude was just walking through with a few of his handlers. Waved and said hii.
I met John Brown in a bar....

For years I thought the name was Tiffany Dell. I always wanted to meet this chick that was so fast. LOL
I got backstage and met Ted Nugent about 35 years ago, back before he became famous for being a blowhard. We're talking back when the encore song was "Papa's Will." I told him I was his biggest fan and he said: "You've obviously never met my mother."

A couple months ago, I sent Henry Rollins an email regarding one of his blog posts...I got an email back almost immediately, and we spent the next 6 hours going back and forth on politics. Kind of cool, but kind of disappointing.
Because his positions were off the mark, or because he seemingly had noting better to do than to play internet with you for six hours?

Because the topic of conversation was the "us vs. them" approach he takes toward politics. If I didn't vote for Obama, I'm obviously an anti-abortion, anti-woman, religious zealot, and Romney's +1 cheerleader.
For a guy who I've heard celebrate individuality and free-thinking, for him to basically say "These guys are on my team, and those guys are on your team, and if you're on that team, I'm not interested in what you have to say about anything" was really disappointing.
I probably thanked him 20 times for taking the time to respond.
I don't think I've met anyone remotely close to an idol.
Both are far from idols but both are definitely odd places, both documented on the forum:
Shopped alongside Hayden Christensen & Rachel Bilsen for a while, didn't realize it
Ran into infamous parrot puppeteer in an airport lounge
At the first motorsport event I entered a hillclimb at Harewood in 1994 I was parked next to Alan Staniforth! He'd given up building his own cars by then and was running a modified FF2000 (Continetal over here)
I met Keith Tanner on Tuesday/Wednesday. All of the Flyin' Miata crew are genuinely nice people. Look for a full report soon...
At SEMA 2012 I met a few cool people.
Joe and Will from Sons of Guns
Not a person, but the REAL backup 787b used for the 1991 LeMans race that the orange and green one won.
FOOSE!!!!
Snoop Dogg!!!!
Kevin from Trucks on SPIKE
All car people should know both of them!
Goldberg the wrestler & actor
Horny Mike from Kounts Kustoms (Counting Cars)
I gotta meet Goldberg. We actually went to school together, but we have never met. Oddly, we are LinkedIn buddies.
I grew up on Long Island and lived near Dee Sider. I once saw him driving a high-top conversion van. It was so cool.
Last night I shook Dave Wakeling's hand. That was kinda cool. Great show, too.
Also, a little more about that. Yes, I'm definitely in the non-worship camp. Just because someone's famous doesn't mean they can walk on water. At the same time, I have met lots of well known people, mostly in racing (duh) and music. Some are kinda tool-like, while others have become good friends.
Here's a quick, funny story. When the SCCA Runoffs first moved to Topeka, the media did a dinner with Kathleen Sebelius, at the time governor of Kansas. She came across as a nice, genuine person. While hanging out, she started telling us how she can see the capitol from her backyard. Did we want to see? So, two minutes later Steven Cole Smith and I are following the governor of Kansas through some bushes so we can crouch just right to see the top of the capitol building.
The next day, she was at the track and was set to introduce Chris Economaki. She obviously wasn't a big race fan, but realized he was a big deal. Just before the introduction, she made eye contact with me and walked over: Hey, I know his basic history, but anything else I should know about this guy? We chatted for a bit, she did a very nice job on the introduction, and then a guy in a suit whisked her away in a P71.
