Someone on here showed me how to opt out of all the credit card offers and crap (which is awesome). I pretty much don't get mail anymore, aside from my water bill (no online billing) and score magazine (basically the same coupons that come in a Sunday paper, but not for anything useful and in book form). No matter how many times I call they won't stop sending me those damn coupons for bathroom remodeling and fences and other crap. If they were for groceries I'd keep them.
my grandfather did that as well. after he retired, he was getting tired of picking up his mail after being gone to colorado for a month and having absolutely nothing useful in it. so he got to looking, and started calling the numbers to get taken off the lists, and now he gets next to nothing in the mail.

Read the book "Post Office" by Charles Bukowski. It is a very insightful piece of work. If it is 50% true the Postal service is doomed.
One of my favorite authors. Excellent.

Just FYI, my local coupon book that comes in the mail has some decent ACE coupons ($15 of $70), etc. Home Depot accepts them since they are a competitor (they take Lowes as well). I was pleasantly surprised so I thought I would share.
