If it's not burning oil I doubt a compression problem, I don't think I've seen one that worn out, and I've seen worn out, like fine wire car spark plug adapted so it would quit fouling plugs levels of worn out.

Nice! I have a smaller Simplicity which has been stone-ax reliable for 15 years, apart from annual mouse-damage remediation/rewiring every spring.

Next time it quits, open the hood, let it cool while you have a cool beverage.

Then see if it starts.

Problem occurs on high hours engines. Seems the Cylinder expands or warps when it gets really hot.

That's exactly what happens. Usually on a hot day, after mowing for several hours.

The Simplicity is great- I mowed the few areas of our lawn that were starting to grow, and it did just what it was supposed to do. The V-twin seems smoother than the one-lung Kawasaki, even though it's rated only 1HP higher.

Bought all the maintenance consummables for it, and going to do my LED headlight conversion (did that on the Deere, and it makes mowing after dark actually possible). Right now Mrs VCH is on me to sell the Deere, so I need to get it cleaned up and ready to go onto the list of Craig.

Interestingly, the Simplicity uses the same headlight bulb as the Deere. I swapped the LEDs from the JD to the S'city on Sunday while cleaning up the Deere to list for sale.

Also, for some reason I recollect the Deere having a lot more hours on it than it does. I checked the odometer and it's only showing 230 hours. Huh. I let it run for awhile, and the odo does tick over, so it's not broken. Huh.
