Well, re-inked.  Running machines for a living I never wore a wedding band, someone forgot to deburr a recess and it gutted my ring finger to the bone (not much meat there anyway).  For my 20th anniversary I got a Celtic type design but should have researched artists more.  Busy design in a small space looked like a band of electrical tape from a distance; I'm having it removed.  It looked similar to the image below.

Given a blank canvas and your 40th anniversary coming up, WWGRMD?

My wife and I recently looked at ring tattoos for our 20th anniversary. We changed our minds after talking to several friends who have finger tattoos and have to have them re-inked regularly. They seem to fade much faster than elsewhere, and few shops in our area will even do them.

The whole idea was greatly motivated by the fact I am often doing things from mechanics to lab work to cooking where I have to take my rings off. I hadn't actually had a wedding band since I lost mine about 3 years ago.

I ended up buying a very nice looking stainless steel band at WalMart for $40. It's tough as hell so I won't hurt it if I forget it, and I don't feel bad about clipping it to my key ring if I forget to take it off before going to the shop. It's also cheap enough that I won't be SOL if I lose it. It's a comfort band so it really is comfortable to wear - I disliked the silicone ones I tried - and it looks like real jewelry, which is nice.

DD#1 has a number of tattoos.  Her first several sets were a series of small unfilled circles designating pivot points of key joints, all on the left side of her body.  It was actually pretty cool.  3 of the pivots were on the knuckles of her left index finger.  Even on the back of her hand, they just never lasted.

Hands and feet see too much action and use to keep tattoos very well.

Does she like flying with you? Share a particular experience?

For example maybe a small glider with your names on the wings and the wedding date on the fuselage(is it even called a fuselage in a glider ?) On your arm or somewhere not a finger?

I have both of my feet done and while the black left one hasn't faded the color right one has significant fading. I don't mind as I always thought the old faded tattoos just tell more of the life story.

I made my own wedding band on my drill press from scrap aluminum, but if I ever buy a replacement I think I’d go for carbon fiber.

I went to a shop in NYC and asked about getting the big blurry colored or touched up.  "Ooo, can we take pictures of that?"  Mmmm, K.

"Yeah, keep 'em on file to explain why we don't do fingers."

Getting it removed is wicked more painful than anything so far in my life, that includes the original wound that cut a vein and split the tendon down the center.

BTW, can't wear a ring now because where the tendon was sewed together, there's a string of small pearls under the skin that moves when I open & close the finger.

wow. yeah, okay. Ouch.

I've seen a guy that's a sailor type and wears a golden anchor on a golden chain around his neck instead of a wedding ring. Not sure my wife would appreciate that symbolism...

Dan should get a big blingy hip-hop styled necklace that read “SWMBO”.

The wife and I have talked about getting tattooed wedding bands for years.  I've worked as a tech for nearly a quarter century, so most of the day I can't wear a ring.  We also heard that they don't last long.

I'm retiring from wrenching in a couple weeks and it's not really necessary now.

Dan, give the silicon bands a try. Good chance they'll work. They're flexy.

You'll need to log in to post.
