I attempted to d/l this morning before work but no where to be found and GRID 2 just showed up from Amazon plus iracing decided to magically renew a subscription I didn't have with a $30.00 charge to my bank account (they received a nice letter).
What's the whole process for this GT Academy though?
Am I the only one bothered by the fact that it is for the PS3 and not a PS4 launch game? I normally wouldn't care, but my wife is looking at putting in a preorder for a PS4.

It sealed the deal for us reserving the Xbone. Maybe I will get a PS4 when GT7 is rolled out.
I'm a die hard Xboxer but the PS3 has served us well for blu-ray, music, netflix, cheap used games that we both can play and have fun together with, and will do so until it dies. The XboxOne will be taking its place in the living room but that just means we have another awesome entertainment device in the bedroom which has no cable right now. And that means I can finally use the 40inch Samsung paperweight thats in there again.

I have been quite out of the GT loop for a few years, but yeah, that is striking me as odd. I assume it had the usual Kaz-driven development time, and it just so happened that Sony brought the PS4 up underneath it. I assume it will get ported/rewritten and released as a PS4 title as well.
I'm stoked that its coming out for PS3 because I don't want to shell out the cash for a whole new system just to play GT
I got a little seat time after work last night with the demo, and I'm pleased with it. I really like the changes they've made with the physics model.
Driving the Leaf with the bumper cam on feels like you're playing a motorcycle racing sim, there is SO much body roll.
I doubt I'm the next GT Academy winner, though. Last night I think my best time landed me 53,000th place.
i had a few minutes with the academy this morning with the baby in the lap and landed in 58587th place. I think i can do better...
I need to go fire up the PS3; I presumably have an hour's worth of updates since I haven't played in a while, and then there's downloading the GT6 preview...
In reply to ransom:
That's become SOP when using the PS3. Start downloads and updates, go to the computer, fix a sandwich, drink a beer, and its just about done!
I ended up taking a few hours and decided to download this and mess around with it. As for the GT Academy - my current rank is 8700(ish) regionally and 79000(ish) worldwide. I suspect I can move up a little bit, but I'm not booking any tickets to the Academy.
Game impressions: Seems like a modest upgrade over GT5. Visuals/scenery are better, but only a little bit. Better lighting and "movement" effects. Surrounding scenery is about the same quality as GT5, as are the visuals on the cars themselves. As for the dynamic handling of the cars, there is more motion and lean in the suspension, but maybe too much. (Either that or the Nissan 370Z handles about like my Miata on all seasons and blown shocks) Its easier to develop a slip angle with the throttle, but again, maybe too easy. Does appear you can no longer curb hop with impunity.
AI continues to be terrible. No variation in the lines they take, no overruns/bobbles/mistakes, pretty much driving glued to the "driving line". The grid has slots for 16 cars/robots in AI races, so that would be an improvement. Menus seem a little easier to work with.
Will I buy it? Not sure yet. Would probably need a pretty impressive portfolio of tracks and cars to peel 60 or 70 bucks out of my wallet.

I like it, I figure GT6 will be much more polished than this. From what I understand, the tuned 370z is fairly accurate.
Who gives a poop about the AI, they're just there so you can farm money to have cars for online.
I'm thinking about preordering it from Gamestop, since you get 20 more cars from them.

Maybe, but I'm assuming the finished product won't be too far off from what you see. Seems it would be risky to send out an overly "dumbed down" version though, so I expect final product improvements would be relatively minimal. I'm most interested in seeing what the car/track selection looks like. The physics changes I like (even if I think they may have gone a little too far) since it makes the driving experience more lively, but I wouldn't pay big $ for them. I'll buy or not buy depending on what I can drive and where.

I went to watch some streaming video tonight, aside from Netflix needing an update... I wanted to watch some Hulu. To install hulu I needed to use the PS store. The PS store needed an update. Then I downloaded hulu and installed. Then hulu wasn't the current version, so it needed an update.
4 berkeleying updates.
Anyway, can someone tell me if GT6 has crazy long load times like GT5?
In reply to ProDarwin:
I'd say downloads seemed marginally quicker. The real question is whether it will require an update for every other login.
BTW - interesting article here on the physics model upgrades: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2013-07-04-gran-turismo-6-preview

Thanks

I meant like Menu->menu or Menu->race start
GT5 is berkeleying ridiculous. If you sit down for 30 minutes to play the game, you often spend 15-20 minutes in menus and loading screens.
In reply to ProDarwin:
Tell me about it. I really hope they clear up the user interface and make it easier to go from event to event.

I don't know where the GT6 thread is (yay GRM search!), but I recently read this:
The prolonged loading times seen in the last game have been massively cut down, menus are easier to navigate, and the transitions between option screens are now much faster.

I may actually give it a try.
