I meant to post this earlier but got distracted. GWAR is on tour right now. JG and I saw them the other night in Orlando--another brutal, crushing show.

Shout out for the home town boys. The GWAR studio is in some industrial space here in Richmond. Rumor is they started out as Virginia Commonwealth Univ. art students.
Last show I saw had a 12 ft dinosaur walk across the stage.
I've seen them 3 times to date. One of the most fun shows I've been to & I've seen upwards of 400 bands.
Even if you don't listen to metal you should check them out at least once.
A little butt hurt that they showed no love for ATL. There are some big GWAR fans here. I considered checking them out in Nashvegas. Would've made a cool roadtrip, but Monday was impossible.
I think GWAR is one of the few reasons i'd go to a live show anymore. Too old for the punker scene, I look like the creepy old dude feelin' up all the kids.

You know, before kicking off Tuesday's show Oderus explained his full hatred for Atlanta. Okay, not really. They did Atlanta on the first leg of this tour. How's that for love? Orlando had to wait for the second leg. Poor us. (Okay, so JG and I drove to Tampa to see them on the first leg, too; how's that for dedication?)

No one, which I thought is kind of classy. Right now they're just a four-piece.
GWAR is one of my bucket list bands.. never seen them. really don't like their music all that much- but they are freakin GWAR and let's be honest, a GWAR show isn't about the music..
if they would go on tour with someone like Rob Zombie and play the larger auditoriums that a Zombie show could fill, i think the earth would tilt off it's axis a little bit..

A GWAR show would lose a lot of the magic in a big auditorium IMHO.
Yeah, it needs to be an intimate venue--big enough for Gor-Gor but not so big that everyone doesn't come home covered in blood.

It is kinda classy. During the final encore, some fans who won the right to bring Flattus' guitar on stage (by donating to his foundation) carry it to the stage and the waling audience. The yare promptly eaten by the world maggot, but the guitar is saved. After the final bow,at the end of a long and sing-a-longy version of "The Road Behind" dedicated to Corey/Flattus, the band exits a dar stage save for one spotlight, shining on Corey's guitar, which has been placed high on one of the parapets of their castle. It's a darn nice touch.

Very nice. I need to see them again, it's been a couple years.

I've actually seen them in a venue that was not big enough for Gor-Gor. It was still part of the show, but they didn't use the full costume, so you had a giant dinosaur head and body running around on tiny human legs. Pretty hilarious looking.

If you EVER make it to a show in Nashville, any show, let me know. I'm only 2.5 hours from there.
