So I'm trying to find female vocal music that you only ever really see in movies where they have the basement bar or speak ies. Lee in the movie it has the gal in a red sequin dress on a piano singing about some dude that broke her heart. I know there's an entire style of that type of music and the large volume of it but I can't seem to name it in such a way that I can find it to add it to Pandora. Anybody got any ideas?
Oh man I know exactly what you're talking about and have absolutely no idea what to call it.

Bossa nova may get you some of that, but will include more upbeat, jazzy stuff as well.
Diana Krall has the vocal tone, if not the outright image. Enjoy your search.
Try Peggy Lee. Old but she sounds like the genre you want.

Dude. Shes is the exact kinda thing I was looking for!!
What genre os it? Any others i should try?
I'm not sure if these will scratch the itch - Patsy Cline, kd lang, Cowboy Junkies (Margo Timmins)
A lot of the covers from Post Modern Jukebox have a similar sound.
Postmodern Jukebox does remixes of popular songs in this style. . Mostly.
Might not be exactly what your looking for but it might be similar.

Also a great live show, BTW. Definitely check them out if they come through your town. It's an actual show, not just a band playing some music.

I just noticed they are coming through Charleston on the 11th of April. I'm going to have to see if I can make that happen.

PMJ has a plethora of 20s, 30s, 40s, 50s, and 60s style covers of modern songs. The singers they have are phenomenal.
Thanks y'all. Between Peggy Lee and postmodern jukebox being plugged into my Pandora we have exactly what I was looking for. I really appreciate it guys. My day sucks far less thanks to you all
AccuRadio has a feed " Lady sings the blues" , with a lot of jazz and blues songs....

Be sure to catch Peggy Lee singing "'Deed I Do". One of my all time favorite songs.

Add in Billie Holiday, Nina Simone (earlier stuff), Diana Krall, Melody Gardot, Imelda May, Lake Street Dive, Norah Jones (some of the not-pop stuff. She does a version of Just the Nearness of You that will melt you), Julie London, Renee Olstead,
Curtis: will do!
And the confession time: pandora was still going in the truck when i picked my 14 year old up. She immediately fell in love with the musical style, and asked to read this thread. By the end of tbe evening, we had bought tickets to her first concert: postmodern jukebox on April 4th in Charlotte
Yesterday ended far different than it began.

Sirius XM needs a "Torch Music" channel. I used to love listening to the "40's on 4" but I think they nuked it...
For a little more modern you could also try Caro Emerald.
Showed my wife this thread and she threw in Nora Jones.

She's a little more upbeat, but definitely fun to listen to.
