Yup and if it's hot as E36 M3 out, then they need to cool down. Nothing crazy long but could be a couple minutes which isn't exactly something you'd want to deal with.

I haven't touched one since 2008 or so at Ft Benning for training.

On the diplomatic front, Kazakhstan has rejected Russia's request for troops and has refused to recognize Putin's attempt to create "independent" regions in eastern Ukraine.

This is kinda WTF for me and I didn't believe it until I saw it from a couple different outlets:

https://news.sky.com/story/ukraine-russia-news-live-blasts-in-kyiv-as-troops-descend-on-capital-kazakhstan-rejects-moscows-request-for-military-support-12541713

Also, the US/Russia are in discussions to setup a "deconfliction" channel:

This thing is barely 48 hours in and Putin is looking for reinforcements already?  If this is true, that's big

It's wild how the Global Hawk has been NASCAR lapping the Black Sea for days broadcasting in the clear.

Lotta conscription to get the Russian military to its size.  Doesn't work too well to have a military that doesn't wanna be there.

Wow that is bizarre. Asking for reinforcements within two days or attacking Ukraine. Good on Kazakhstan! Also China abstaining from the UN resolution is big. Russia is really all alone here. I hope Ukraine can hold on long enough to matter.

Zelensky doesn't sound eager to leave Ukraine. From the AP:

A US official confirms Ukraine President Volodymyr rejected an offer from the American government to evacuate Kyiv.

A senior American intelligence official with direct knowledge of the conversation quoted the president as saying that “the fight is here” and that he needed anti-tank ammunition but “not a ride.”

I have seen footage of Russian military deserting or requesting surrender. With social media and the entire invasion broadcast live on Youtube, perhaps the history being made will be the first major conflict ended due to a refusal by the military to actually fight. Many must be conscripts and never wanted to be there to begin with. I watched a captive being made to talk to his parents back in Russia and they seemed surprised to hear he was in the Ukraine.

Okay, I am having a laugh now.  I'm imagining it like a conversation with your parents that a lot of kids have had...  "Why are you there? You said you were staying over Billy's tonight..."

Sky is reporting that France has seized a Russian cargo ship in the Channel on suspicion of belonging to a sanctioned company. France also now calling for suspension of Russia from SWIFT - I'm guessing Germany is the big holdout, since they're the ones owed the most money by Russia.

Question for you guys that know a little bit more about military equipment. It seems like a lot of the Russian missles have not exploded after hitting their targets. Is this normal or are Russian missles just kind of E36 M3?

Interesting observation. Their stuff does has a higher rate of failure than ours - thats for sure - Ive seen lots of unexploded ordinance (UXO) that was mostly Soviet/Russian stuff. Ours does as well, but not nearly at the same rate.

I chalk it up as a function of Soviet quality control in their manufacturing process.

02Pilot,

Can you give your personal INTSUM for the current situation?

Whats your take on the capability of Russian log trains along numerous axes?

We (the US) confirmed the loss of 2 IL-76s yesterday, but I have not seen any USG officials or statements on the numbers of Russian losses that the Ukrainians are claiming to have inflicted - thoughts? For example, the Ukrainians are claiming 500+ APCs destroyed - that seems to be more than a whole Russian motor rifle division. If that were the case, we would be seeing BTRs and BMPs literally littering the landscape.

Kyiv independent on losses.

if this is true this could be very very bloody for the Russians real fast.  Seems like Putin doesn't care.

Definitely not normal for properly designed armaments.  There is a lengthy QA process for any lot of ammunition that the US govt receives. I forget the exact value we used to have to aim for with tank ammo but we were always aiming for statistically insignificant with our failures.
