For years I've suffered through the government approved spring loaded gas can nozzles. For years I've dumped gas everywhere except where I wanted it. When a gas can replacement nozzle was one prime shipment away, all along. 13$ for 3 nozzles.

It's beautiful.
I just got one of these the other day. Cheaper than a 2 gallon gas can and no annoying spout.

The problem is adding them to new cans. Great, until you realize that new cans don't have a vent cap. Glug, glug, glug...HHHHUUUUUUUUH, glug, glug...

Came to say the same. Bought one at Rural King the other day. They also have them in green and yellow.

Oh damn. I just spent $35 on a 5 gal VP "utility jug". Unfortunately, there are no RKs within 200 miles of me.

When you come to the Challenge next month stop by the one in Gainesville and buy a few. I'm thinking I'm going to replace all my cans with these.
Utility jug. I prefer the clear version because from across the room I can tell how much fuel is in the can.

Technically, these cans are not approved for transport. And, the red jugs seem more correct when using them at the gas pump. But, my clear has a big Sunoco logo that pretty much answers the intended question of "is this safe for gas?"
For less than $7 you can get two Sunoco Stickers to put onto your Rural King jugs if you want the same look. The vent on the Rural King model is a little nicer. It has a screw on cap. The Sunoco has just a push-on plastic cap.

I got a red one like this style recently at our local farm supply store. It specifically says "not for gasoline" on it but I fully intend to use it for gasoline and see how long I survive.
I got it specifically because the spouts on the typical 5 gallon gas cans aren't long enough to get into a filler neck on my old junk AND get the can all the way empty. This is a particular problem on my malibu with the fuel fill behind the license plate.
The fitting/cap/clamp at the end of these is kind of problematic for filling as they provide a catching point. I don't know. I just replaced mine with longer piece of PVC hose but now I don't have a good solution to cap the hose when not in use or in transport.
Rambling thoughts from a guy in search of a better way to fill up my junk cars that rarely make it to the actual gas station.

Actually, I think you moved closer to one than you were. There is one in Crystal River.
In reply to ClemSparks :
You can get a PVC nipple and cap, slide the nipple in the hose and clamp it then you have a rigid extension that will fit in a fuel filler and can be capped.
I keep meaning to do this to mine but the funnels are always laying around and I put it off.
Like this but with more home depot and less $20 VP racing part.

Rad! The one I bought didn't.
In reply to EvanB :
Sweet...good tip, thanks. I hadn't visualized that myself yet. I expected someone here had a solution figured out they'd share.

Now you just need the shirt to go with the new nozzles.

Why are all the cans and jugs in this thread improperly labeled?
Come on, guys.
Buy one of these. You will promptly throw out all of your old cans. No spilling, no glugs, and easy to control. I don't use my race cans anymore either except at the track.
Being that I use race gas in the F500 (ethanol will kill the fuel cell bladder) I get a fuel pail every once in awhile.
Metal, doesnt tip as easily, good luck telling me its not ok for transport... Oh yeah, intimidating your neighbor when gassing up your lawn tractor!
I think I gave gimpy one awhile back because it would fit under the bed topper on his truck.
I have been using them for my lawn equipment needs. (I do have one of the clear jugs for actually fueling the F500, I need the long hose)
I keep looking at this style. But, don't want to pay that much

Timely this came up. I had a three cans in the shed that had damaged gaskets or nozzles. I ordered a replacement spout kit for them, and after trying one out, went and ordered some for the cans that didn't have them. Game changing.
I still use the spring loaded vapor lock caps for storing, but when it comes time to pour, I switch out the spout.
I switched to the rural king Jug years ago, my only complaint is that it needs a better grip on the bottom.
Non vented cans, spring lever bullE36 M3 nozzles, they can all go away.
In reply to SV reX :
This is not a portable fuel container as described by ASTM, EPA, ARB and other official agencies. For Racing Fuel only, such as Nitromethane or Methanol, used in sanctioned motorsports. NOT for fuel used on highways. Also for storage and transport of feed, water, attractants, fluids and other outdoor products.
I don't use the fuel on highways, I use it in my yard, but my 12hp kohler runs on methanol if anyone asks.
Frankly, all the alphabet agencies can get berkeleyed if they think it's better for the environment and personal safety to dump fuel all over the place when trying to refill a tractor or lawn mower or have cans swell to dangerous levels then spray fuel vapors everywhere when in the sun during work or transport.

Couldn't care less about the alphabet agencies. But it is foolish for me to try to guess WHY it doesn't meet a standard. What I know is that it doesn't meet the standard. Perhaps that's because it's has a goofy spout. Perhaps that's because the material will break down when exposed to volatile products. Perhaps it's because some beurocrat wasn't paid a bribe. Perhaps there is a legitimate risk of fire or damage that I haven't considered.
What I know is it's not a fuel can, and it's not labeled correctly. If there is a fire, or some kid ingests it, or an environmental issue it's MY FAULT because I failed to obey the rules.
I respect your decision to use whatever container you choose. But the risk is you may be asked to remove it from a race venue, or get fined, or cause a risk, or other. As long as you are ok with that, you do you.
In reply to SV reX :
In the same token, I question what standard the vapor lock requirement meets. Im sure it keeps vapors in better. Was that the only design requirement though? Must hold in vapors. Ignore the part where you can't pour without gas going everywhere. Or nearly everyone that uses the thing gets fed up with it, and takes the spout off anytime they want to use it. But, the vapors are locked in! The last time I tried to fill my mower, I ended up with gas all over me trying to use the vapor lock spout. Thank god those vapors are locked in, that could have been dangerous!
Whoever is in charge of these standards, shouldn't be.

From what I've seen, if you go to a race venue, it'll generally easier to count the number of amateur teams NOT using that style of "was for fuel, until it wasn't" jug with its added nudge-nudge-wink-wink disclaimer.
