Drove 2400 miles in 35 hours in a '98 Ranger with a tow dolly. Kansas to Florida and back. Dolly was empty on the way down. Picked up a sight-unseen 50 year-old Mini and towed it home on ancient dry-rotted tires, in the landfall of whatever hurricane that was...
With my wife as co-driver.
We're still married.
Drove 3000 miles solo to pick up a non running rusty $475.00 73 Capri that sat outside in Waco TX for 10 years, it has sat for another 2 under cover since.
I own 5 Stags.
I have 25 cars, about 1/3 run.
I tow cars to the Mitty for a couple of touring laps
Defends Range Rover ownership.

I've purchased two E30s, both sight unseen from the East Coast.
1st one, paid and had it shipped.
2nd one, paid, had the guys from Guten Parts up in NJ go pick it up, do some work for me, than I flew to Newark, they threw me a party and got me hammered, then drove the car back to OK the next 1.5 days.
But that's pretty tame.
Spent $2500 of vacation money 3 weeks before vacation without telling SWMBO purchasing 2 barns full of cars and parts.
Redeemed myself by selling one car for $3500 with a week to spare and had best vacation ever!
I have worked hard to know all about 1991-96 Escorts.
Organizing the shop I have a goal of creating a complete set of sockets, 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2...deep and shallow using different manufacturers (US) for each socket.
Anyone can have a complete set of Craftsman or Snap-On.
I once put a 327 in an Issetta.

I kind of wish I could break lose and be as nutty / dumb / whatever label is being considered here. But I think nutty requires motivation and it's easier to talk instead of do. Blah.
I think we are all a little nutty. My case in point- I got drunk and woke up with a GM V8 in my porsche. That, and my diff alone is worth more than the car that it resides in.
Face it- we all have several screws loose. It's just a matter of who has how many...

I have the beginnings of a possible top-5 challenge car sitting here that I've lacked motivation to fix for half a decade.....but thats probably normal around here.

Granted I have poured at least 3x the purchase price into my current pair of taurii......and one hasn't run since '08 and will probably get parted to clear the garage bay for the bimmer.
I need SHO parts, if you decide to do that, let me know. Sorry for the OT.
I bought an 81 Starlet that I am planning to swap a Miata IRS and a Ford Taurus SHO motor into to drag to Florida with a bunch of other crazies. I know I don't hold a candle to the rest of you but I got to start somewhere.

I'm sorry, but which idiot here drug home a rusty AMC Javelin that was abandoned since 1986, a Porsche 944, an AMC Hornet, an FB RX-7 with 230K miles on the original 12A, a Lincoln MkVIII, a Duster V6 that was abandoned after an attempted theft, and a P71 from the State Patrol to daily drive?!?
FTFY
Fixed it again to reflect the crap I have drug home in the last 4 years.

I drove the Ice Truckers road in a Porsche a couple of years ago... now I'm going back to drive across Alaska again... in a Sprinter van!
I bought a really rusty Turbo Dodge with no floors, and expect to actually drive it someday. If that's not nuts, I don't know what is.

I got nothin' on you guys. Really need to up my game here.
I l0ve this community Wartburgs and all
I'll throw my hat in the ring...
1 - purchased a sight-unseen 73 Impala Station Wagon for 4 times its value just to save it from a bidder named "DemoDerbyRacer," rented a Dodge Neon to drive 1400 miles to get it, and took tires with me because the seller said it still had the nylon bias-ply tires on it from yesteryear.
2 - Bought a 66 Bonneville 4-door from my uncle for $300, spent over $15k in modifications, and now its in the body shop for another $5k worth of work, and I haven't even started on the $4k engine, the $3k transmission, or the massive modifications to the suspension and frame.
3 - accepted a free 65 Scout 800 from my friend that I will be turning into a Baja-style off-roader. Its not even worth the cost of the gas I used to go get it.
The list continues. I'm just too tired to finish it.

Ive run in the BABE rally 7 times, 4 of those were on my anniversary.
I did a fly and drive 1400 miles for a $750 station wagon.
My boss is well aware of my philosophy, "Im only working here to pay for my cars"
I currently have 2 eastern bloc cars in my garage.
On that note WARTBURG...and Yugo.
I drove that damned Wartburg, a gutted caged mostly race car that was cobbled together from 6 other cars and hadn't until 2 days before when it blew its motor, replaced the motor and went on a solo 18 hour "test drive" with no tools.
Before I had to worry about things like a family I would gladly skip meals to pay for parts.
and WARTBURG ;)
And I'm still probably not the nuttiest one here.
Not even top 10, but;
Raced THAT Wartburg (heck 10 minutes after I arrived at his house he asked me to finish welding in the cage, can't decide who is nuttier for that)
Sold him that Wagon
Did BABE 2 Days after returning form deployment in a minivan with no AC with my wife (still married).
-blew up van, traded for beer.Bought other BABE Car from JThw8, drove that home, blew it up.
Spent my one day off post during that deployment at Ferrari World (OK, that's not that nuts)
Destroyed a trailer once on the way to GRM Challenge, got 16V Corey to come back with me and drove my illegal unplated, stickered gutted Challenge Nissan 50 miles to the hotel.
Oh yeah, and most recently; after Sandy cancelled my flight home from Philly, bought a 187,000 mile Land Rover and drove him 1,400 miles home.
I am sure there are stupider things, but I can't remember. Hey, you don;t just "get" a name like Mental. You earn it.
BTW, I am sure you understand we all totally support you in this effort. Good luck! Crush it!
