After i struck out with not bringing internet porn to the market I had an idea about GPS units with built in radar detectors. I never got past the idea phase...

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/10/27/escort-passport-iq-marries-gps-with-radar-detector/

Escort has released its brand-new Passport iQ automotive accessory. We would call this a radar detector, but it appears to be much more than that. The Passport iQ, in addition to detecting radar and laser, has a built-in GPS unit, Bluetooth connectivity, red light and speed camera notifications, speed limit information and live traffic updates. All of this information is displayed on a five-inch, full-color touchscreen. The price of the Passport iQ is $649.95, which, assuming it works as advertised, is peanuts compared to a few speeding tickets and a bump in car insurance rates. Escort offers the unit on a trial basis for free, for 30 days. It also comes with a 90-day free trial subscription to Escort's Defender Database, which comes loaded with thousands of speed trap locations. Read more about the Escort Passport iQ in the press release, after the jump.

Stoopid Mofo... Stoopid, stoopid Mofo.

Very cool but I would like mine to include portable Sirius/XM radio as well. That would clear up my dash and window which now has a V1, Garmin and portable XM player.

What this needs is to be able to transmit where the radars are set up to other users, so instead of just telling you when you're getting hit with radar, it would give you a warning about when you're coming up to a radar gun so you have a minute or two to slow down. I had a similar idea for an iphone app. Have the app running all the time, and when you pass a cop hiding on the side of the road you hit a button on your iphone. That gets transmitted to the iphone server which then gets fed down to all other iphone users, and when your iphone figures out that you're close to a cop that someone else reported, it gives you a warning.

That iPhone app would be subject to such immediate abuse it would be useless.

My father had a Garmin with integrated XM and while it seemed like a good idea on paper, the constant interruption of the radio gets really annoying. They two systems don't overlap, the GPS supersedes the radio output.

Ahh but just because garmin excecuted it so poorly doesn't mean all such combined devices are doomed to failure.

I would think the most logical order of importance in the heirarchy of control would be.. from least important to most

GPS

XM

Radar

Porn

Yeah Quasi, Ifeel your pain Brother.

That happened to me just last week. I woke up in the night with number rolling around in my head, the same ones over and over and over. I was going to play the Lottery but got sidetracked with work and life. Next thing you know, some fool is on TV holding a bag of MY CASH!! Those were my numbers that won.

Think if I went back and explained it to them politely they would give me something?

The only problem is that you wouldn't be able to use your GPS everywhere. Places where radar detectors are illegal would keep you from using it. That would suck - "we are now entering Ontario. Please turn me off and put me in the trunk".

Sorry, I remember that stuff from when I was in public school, about 20 years ago. It was around for a couple years and then disappeared.

Old news, it's called Trapster. It uses a reputation system to prevent abuse.
