After several months of waiting.. and then writing a bigger cheque than I wanted.. I have my Disco back! Purring like a kitten and with a few things fixed that he threw in for free due to how long it took.
With the Top hatted Cylinders and all.. I hope to drive this beastie for a very long time now

You has a happy? If that happy persists for more than 4 hours, you should see your doctor.
Don't be silly boost, a Range Rover has never lasted 4hrs.

Haha. You have a point there. Disregard my last comment.
I have to wonder how long the old engine was sick.
In just driving it to work and back.. I picked up 4 mpg from before according to my phone and the torque app. Instead of averaging about 16.. I am averaging 20ish for the same route I was driving before it finally died.
My Malibu was only averaging 26 for the same route.. so this might be very good
Wow 20 in a Discovery? I didn't think that was possible!
I will know for certain when I fill it up again and do the math...
well.. I had a happy..
I guess the joke about Rovers not running more than 4 hours may be true.
Over the course of the past two days I have noticed that the engine is running warmer than the old one. The dead engine would run at 90c.. the new one can hit 105c.. this is with a brand new 85c thermostat.
My mechanic also changed the oil at 40 miles due to metal in it. At 100 miles, the oil pressure light comes on at idle when hot and when I changed the filter, I found more glitter in the oil than I would like.
After $8500 in a brand new rebuilt engine that was supposed to fix all the problems the stock rover engine had, plus another grand in a new radiator, hoses, and other misc parts, plus $3000 in mechanic's labour.. I would have liked to get more than 40 miles out of the engine before having issues.
Tomorrow I call British Atlantic and see what they are going to do about it.

I do sincerely apologize for the following, but I was a Land Rover tech for 11 years and have dealt with them in the past.
Good luck. I hope it all works out.
worst comes to worst.. I will drop it off at their door and tell them to "fix it"
Man... If I put 12.5k into the crew cab gmt 800, I'd have a 500+hp turbocharged long travel suspension monster that would go 400k kms.
Btw, I'm totally looking to be adopted. You seem like a really nice individual, very charitable with his money. I, being a charity case, will gladly take some off your hands!
im not sure i would have purchased a cherry disco for 12.5k, let alone fix a busted one...once you DO get it back, sell it....

I am sorry I would ask for my 12.5K back and buy something slightly more reliable.

Good luck finding that many in one place that run!

Here in America we have many vehicles. More than moose, even.
Sorry to hear the new Rover heart is defective.
Someone really needs to make a well engineered domestic V8 swap kit for them.
Until that happens, I'd recommend this as a better tool for the job.

Man, that is such a bad feeling....spending a large chunk on repairs, enjoying the result, then having things go to E36 M3. Good luck and I hope you can work it out with the engine builder, but I'm guessing you'll be out more labor even if you work out a warranty replacement.
If this was a Rovers North engine, I'd be surprised but confident they'd take care of it. British Atlantic might be more of a challenge.
I just found out that the Land Rover National Rally is going to be held in our little town this year. Guess I should get the old girl up and running again and drop in.

Sorry, had to get those out of the way. I hope you used a credit card for that long block. Hello chargeback!

I am laughing, though trying really hard not to, that your new engine failed within the context of your 'yay it's running again' thread.
Combine this with the "cheap" 911 thread and I am happy to stay mainstream.
Please let us know, and I really hope it does work out well, somehow, in the end.
