This winter I'd like to repaint the fuselage of my glider. It has a 10/10 finish right now, but the fuse has nicks and dings that the wings don't. I plan on light sanding and then poly paint.
Most sailplanes have the top of the nose painted something other than white, this cuts down on reflection. Not really an issue with mine as the nose drops off quickly, the last photo shows pretty much everything you see.
Sailplanes are usually white to keep the heat down, problem is you can't see them easily on hazy days. They really should be school bus yellow!
I wouldn't mind something different, like a beak up front and an eagle face sweeping behind the wings. I'm not that talented. I'm looking for a design that would break up all the white, make it more visible in the sky and be easy enough that I can do it in the garage.
I remember that all boats in Hong Kong have eyes painted on the stem so the soul of the boat can see out. I would do that.

eyes on planes rapidly lead us into "flying tigers" territory. How do you feel about the complete shark-mouth treatment?
If we consider mimicking some military aircraft cues, there are other good options. What do you think about yellow banding on the fuselage behind the cockpit, or a stripe on the nose?
(I know that the de havilland looks nothing like your glider.....I just like them)
Properly done, I would consider anything. BTW, the red stripes on the wings and tail are required in Europe; not here. They do help.

Do you seriously want an eagle face? I'm up for doing mockups once you decide.
Right now I'm thinking something similar to what you have now but with yellow in place of the white and black in place of the blue. Maybe black stripes down the wings and tail? It'll look like Bruce Lee's favorite jumpsuit
How about what appears to be an engine fire and then smoke/flames trailing down the side of the plane?
I'm thinking maybe Pitts-style black "sun rays" on the underside of the wings would make it easy to spot from the ground, but they won't be super-easy to paint.
Maybe white with red in place of the blue (left the numbers out here 'cuz they're a PITA) and some red diamond shapes on the bottom?
Another idea, yellow underside:
Edit: Yellow underside looks a lot better without the red stripes. Letters would probably be best in black:

Well you can't have both
I could do the rudder in yellow with checkerboard at the top edge.
The 1/4" pinstriping on the trailer, both red and black stiping; is 3M reflective. Like the stuff you see on cop cars.
I wonder if some of that would help visibility?
